The birria tacos were yummy but they were exceptionally good after dipping in the consomé. A flavorful combo that you shouldn’t miss. FYI all the meat used are halal! This is a great quick bite spot for cheap eats before I get my pay check.*Beef Al Pastor Birria Taco***Chicken Birria TacoThe taco shell was thin and slightly crispy. I was really skeptical about adding pineapples to beef tacos (I don’t like pineapple…) but the fruit actually went along well with fresh cilantro and meat. For the protein choices, the slow-cooked pulled beef was so juicy and tender. We found the chicken a bit dry, but it still tasted delicious after dipping in the soup. Both the meat and the sauces served on the side weren’t spicy.*Consomé (small)There were plenty of shredded beef and cilantro in the consomé, so so so flavorful. I felt like a small size was good enough for dipping, as it was quite salty to drink the soup by itself.

Very excited about the prospect of a halal Mexican food place near Astor Place, and I don't doubt most of the excellent reviews here. However, the empanadas I received from here were below acceptable. Tasted like old oil, surprisingly dry beef, and crunchy in like a burnt way. I'm going to assume this was an off day, but the price really begets food of better quality.

Very loud, not a lot of food for the price, and the food itself was kind of watery and stale. I ordered the chicken tacos. Might try it again, but this isn’t going to be a go-to. I see this spot as some place that’s probably popular with teenagers partying on a night out but not something I would bring someone to that’s trying to eat something authentic and chill.

This has become my favorite spot on St. Marks Street. I often come here for tacos and tostadas when I’m in the area. The tostadas have crunchy shells with moist and tasty beef. Everything I’ve had here is full of flavor and delicious. Always fresh - the taste and texture is just right.

so so so good!!!! my favorite would have to be the beef mulitas... everything about them was amazing. beef birria tacos (with cheese of course) were also phenomenal and the consome is a must to dip everything in. i would also recommend the esquite. you can skip the chicken tacos and the birria dumplings were interesting, but nothing to die for. there is a fair amount of seating available inside.

Lunched at Birria LES and it was a fantastic experience. The restaurant serves up amazing Mexican cuisine, with the highlight being that it’s halal. The Birria Tacos - Al Pastor and Chicken Birria Dumplings were exceptional, and the small consomé was the perfect accompaniment. Loved every bite!

1.5/3 Food; 0.5/1 Value; 1/1 Service I came to Birria LES for a quick takeout dinner, so I will limit my review mostly to that. The ambiance was fun and casual with cute space-taco themed murals on the walls. There were many diners on a Friday evening, but the line and orders were moving fast. The staff was friendly and the food was prepared very quickly: I was in and out with dinner in minutes. I got two classic beef birria tacos and a small consommé that came to just under $15. The tacos were served alongside a hot red sauce, limes and cilantro and onions, and overall they were rather tasty, albeit slightly dry. The tacos had a nice tang and freshness from the hot sauce and lime juice. The consommé however, was sorely disappointing with little beef and an overwhelmingly bitter flavor. I suspect it probably was not fresh and stewed much too long, resulting in the bitterness. I absolutely abhor food waste, but I couldn't bare to finish eating it and unfortunately had to throw more than half of the consommé away. I heard so many great things about Birria LES and I was really excited to try it given it is so hard to find halal tacos, let alone birria! However, this experience left me somewhat disappointed. I hope this was just a one-off bad experience since the prices are pretty on-par with other locations around the city and the tacos were still good. However, the consommé definitely did not feel worth the price or the quality.

Came here with my sister and got the birria tacos with the birria nachos and they were both delicious ! Next time, I would probably not get the nachos as the taste felt too similar to the tacos but the tacos were great.

One of my favorite birria spots in Manhattan! The tacos are absolutely perfect and so is the consommé. They also have several other options than the traditional birria tacos. Service is great, it's on the smaller side but it's never been overly crowded anytime I've gone.
