Was my favorite till they start giving fake sriracha and charge extra for real sriracha. Understand sriracha is expensive but you egg and cheese is also $8. Thx for ruining the experience for few cents.

Great atmosphere, including indoor and back patio seating. Mushroom bureka and croissants very good. Strong coffee too.

My favorite coffee place in the neighborhood. Their chais, iced lattes, bagels, and baked goods are all excellent. The line can sometimes get long but it moves fast! Friendly service and they also have stamp cards for people like myself who are regulars. I always bring people visiting to Black Star so they can have the best coffee in the neighborhood to start their day!

My oat milk latte was GREAT- except my sister and I ordered a cortado and not a latte lol. The barista confirmed it was a cortado but it was definitely 80% milk, 20% espresso and 12oz total lol

The food and coffee are fine but they have a no laptop policy which I find ridiculous given the amount of seating they have. Additionally, they charge a surcharge on credit cards in excess of the 3% allowed so they are violating their terms of service. Given the number of coffee shops and bakeries in the area they are nothing special and I would recommend going to other more customer friendly places nearby.

Good vibe, everything is well stocked, and the patio is wonderful for me and my family. Most importantly, the baristas are so warm and welcoming. The service delivery makes you feel like you have a coffee shop in your backyard. It’s really kid friendly, which is special when you are a parent and want a nice coffee shop experience that also supports your children.

Reduced their sizes of their pastries and charge the same prices for them… The food is good but definitely is the place to skimp out their customers

My favorite bakery in UES so far. Their almond and chocolate croissants and Chai Latte’s (especially with almond milk) are amazing!

I'm so glad I found out about this brand! I popped in at their UES location for a mid-morning sweet treat, and I literally couldn't pick. There were so many delicious options!

I got a chocolate brownie bite, which was the perfect size and soooo yummy!

Having locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn, makes it a perfect spot for a coffee catch up anywhere you are.
Next time we bring sweets to the Supp office for the team will be from Black Star Bakery!

Love love love Black Star. It has my favorite chai latte on the UES, and their breakfast food is stellar. The sriracha, egg, and cheese sandwich is a favorite, as is the breakfast burrito. They’ve also recently redone their back patio, upgrading the furniture and offering more and better seating. It’s a perfect spot for a quick outdoor breakfast or lunch.

Pastry is delicious, coffee is only ok. The waitress told me not to use laptop in the garden area where there was no one there. The waitress was really rude when she told me and she was very angry towards me. When did I ever offend you!

This local cafe's pastries are incredibly delicious, lets get that outta the way right now. However, great pastries won't save you from serious shortcomings. I've been coming here for years, and each subsequent visit gets further and further apart, and makes me want to abandon coming here altogether.

First, Black Star often seems to run out of certain items even by semi early morning hours, and that I think is them not getting enough stock of each item, which they could rectify, yet seemingly don't want to. Second, the service CAN be fast, but often takes forever, and there are quickly ridiculously long lines forming inside. Third, and this is more a fault of this terrible neighborhood than the cafe, is that the people who come here mostly suck. They're entitled, annoying, and take two eternities buying up some of the most popular pastries in gluttonous fashion. The atmosphere of this place is pretentious and obnoxious, and that's mainly due to the clientele, not the cafe's intentions. Lastly, their pricing......is off to say the least. Some things, like croissants, are semi reasonable, but then you get the Cinnamuffin. While delicious as hell, should it really be $5 for something so tiny? Even donuts are too much for their size. They really overcharge on a lot of pastries to be sure, so be wary.

Overall, if you want a solid breakfast cafe, you can definitely do better elsewhere. I'd wager you can walk a bit further and find something cheaper somewhere nearby. Perhaps Padoca is a better option? Either way, price wise and atmosphere wise this place isn't great, so proceed with caution.

I ordered an iced strawberry matcha but when I received it it was almost warm! the matcha wasn’t strong enough to mask the almond milk taste either. I was so disappointed :( I traveled all the way from Atlanta, Georgia to order from from this cafe but now I know the truth.
