I have been jogging past the marina for 42 years. Before my time (1982) the marina had become a rent-controlled floating slum with sinking vessels and their entitled owners. The purpose of the marina was to allow people to dock there temporarily not to become a community of rent-controlled floating apartments. I am glad that the marina has been closed. It should now be dynamited and repurposed in a way that more than 20 people can enjoy.
An odd and interesting place. I have mostly visited via my kayaks or paddle board. I suppose my favorite time is in the warmer part of the year when sailboats are moored (mostly) north of the marina or those times when the Sloop Clearwater or some other impressive large craft is tied up there. We (being HarborLAB.org) have also stopped here regularly around dawn during our annual circumnavigation of Manhattan to go up into town for coffee and/or breakfast.
Great for exercise (walking, biking, jogging and I guess boating) Been a while since Covid struck last year. Glad to be up and about, working off calories and stretching my muscles.
