The Salads are great!! Beet Tartare is unbelievable delicious… best thing on a busy city day.
the ppl working there were nice! i went in on a monday afternoon so maybe the selection was more limited than usual. the fridge had small sides for $10 and a couple salads for $17, but perhaps better for snacks. i got a side of chickpea salad that was a-ok!
Cute little local and vegan market that always has a fresh and interesting array of salads and soups, as well as healthy snacks and fun goodies. Always love popping in here to see what's new!
disclaimer: this was a love letter
7/30 Update: I found a piece of glass in my lentils. I recently had to get a tooth extraction and this piece of glass could’ve scratched my gums or stomach lining going through my body. I’m so disappointed that this would happen at Bonberi. They’ve consistently been my most reliable health food store in NYC but this is a massive safety hazard that they need to address immediately. I highly recommend disregarding the amazing feedback below until they publicly announce how they’re going to improve quality control measures. They recently also started offering beauty products with fragrance and other dubious ingredients (i.e., not in line with their curation bar historically). I wonder if the owner has sold the business or started to cut corners. I’m so sad about this - Bonberi was one of the few things in NY that gave me hope for healthy living in NYC.
This place has had a chokehold on me since I moved to NYC a year ago. On a good week, I come here at least once a week, and on a bad one, I come 2-3x, because ya girl needs an emotional pick me up (try the ‘feelings brownie’ and thank me later). The space is unassuming/unpretentious, but the products are clearly curated from a place of love, wellness and care. There’s always something new to discover here, and you can trust the options to be safer than what you find in most NYC stores!
What keeps me coming back -
Salads - If you’re a produce snob, you’ve come to the right place. You can’t get produce this fresh/organic from anywhere else in the West Village. I go to the Union Square farmer’s market to try to buy organic/local and optimize for food grown in good soil (since grocery organic is hit or miss with nutrient-density), and I go to bonberi when I want the salad already prepared! I understand a sweetgreen salad is <$14, but those leave your mouth with the taste of too much sodium/preservatives, and if you’re tuned in closely to how your mouth/body feels, you’ll notice a difference post-consumption. I love all the salads but the italian and asian ones are my faves!
Soup - The soup here is nourishing and homemade. It’s never over-salted (main complaint with store-bought soups) and pairs perfectly with the salads.
Coffee - If you like iced lattes w/ alt milk, get the house milk (so good in the summertime)!
Muffins/Cakes - I love the carrot, because it’s not too sweet (personal preference), but if you want something more decadent, the devil’s food cake and cinnamon rolls will do the job!
Condiments/Shelf/packaged items - have tried a lot of these options and love the chili crisps, kimchi, date-based sweets, etc. Honestly, so many great finds!!
Staff - these people are genuine, helpful, and they’ll also tell you their real opinion on things they’ve tried. I feel a sense of trust and am grateful they’re not incentivized to make a sale; they really care about your experience.
Per the love letter - Bonberi, when I’m out of town, I look forward to coming home to you!
Yours,
Kat
I have been a customer since the beginning and have been getting delivery lately because of my schedule. Their food is high quality so you’ll be paying premium prices, but I would expect my delivered food to be stapled, taped and secured for sanitary reasons. Yesterday, I ordered two salads and told the lady over the phone to please staple my bag because the last couple times I ordered delivery, my bag was not stapled and my soups were not taped. I didn’t bother to give them feedback about it because it’s usually not a regular occur since, but yesterday I kindly asked them to please staple my bag because the last few deliveries were not securely packaged. When I received my order, my bag was stapled way too much and it seems like the ladies working there yesterday were trying to play games with me. It was unnecessary to staple by bag this much. This never happens when Irene is working at the mart as she’s very attentive to detail and considerate of her customers. I’m not interested in playing games and I was kind when I gave feedback and requested that my premium food be handled with care. I don’t want to be discouraged from ordering from here either. Please make the necessary changes because I want to continue being a customer but not if the employees there are going to be careless or disrespectful. That’s very low vibrational
The chickpea tuna melt is the best sandwich I have ever had. Incredible. The products are well curated. The service is impeccable. I love it here. Full support.
The store carries Knead Love bakery (also found at the union square greenmarket) local whole grain vegan/gluten-free breads, brownies, and cinnamon buns, and many other nutritious foods, and natural home essentials like bamboo toothbrushes, and is on quiet 11th street in the west village just west of greenwich st.
Great food and customer service love this place
This place is great! They have lots of healthy options and brands I hadn't heard of before. I came here after eating breakfast elsewhere so I didn't get a salad but they looked incredible and my friend raved about their dressings. I can't wait to come back and give them a try. She also said the brand that they sell there for gluten free baked goods (Knead Love Bakery) is amazing. :)
Love it soooo much! Small but mighty! A great selection of snacks, sweet treats, drinks and fresh take away food. The staff is amazing and super friendly & helpful! Everything I’ve tried so far has been consistently delicious & always fresh. I especially love the lentils, potato salad, chickpea tuna, their salads and the ‘knead love’ gluten free bread, bagels & cookies. I’m so grateful this place exists! :)

The energy in Bonberi Mart has gotten so much better! I think I can speak for everyone that Irene and the new staff make it a very pleasant space and I enjoy going there, exploring their specials & products they carry, and meeting new people. The previous staff, primarily Chelsea, made me feel unwelcome and would feel anxious when I’d go there. I would actually call in & ask if they had certain things in stock before heading over, but in reality I would check if she was working so I could avoid her energy. So glad it’s a much higher vibe there bc their food is top tier!
Love this place. Fresh juices & fantastic matcha latte. Staff was super helpful in directing me to different products I expressed interest in/asked about - even to the extent of offering me a recipe for these noodles I’ve never cooked with before :)Love their dog treat selection, too. And I’m especially particular with these!
Small store selling vegan goods (crisps, sauces, baking ingredients, toiletries). Stocks some prepared meals (salads, smoothies). Also offers freshly prepared bagel, coffee and some pastries. Limited seating (for 2 people).
17 USD for a smoothie love it
I have never seen an employee wear a mask after walking by daily since June 2020. Won’t take cash (which is illegal). Also they don’t have a lot of selection.
