This was a pretty underwhelming experience. My chum and I walked by here a few weeks ago on our way to a different lunch spot (we actually encountered a little doxie pup right by the entrance that we still bring up in conversation on a pretty regular basis - a true canine superstar on an island of canine superstars), and it caught my eye at the time. I made my way back yesterday for a light lunch to end the week. I used to work down by the Jersey City Waterfront, and they have a similar, Australian-themed veganish coffee/café place like this called Bluestone. I wasn't over the moon about that one either, but it's definitely a notch or two about Wattle in multiple ways.Based on the menu, the bread and butter of this establishment seems to be the waffles. I've been hitting waffles pretty hard lately, otherwise I would have gone with that. Instead, I opted for the Down Under Truffle Smash ($15.50) and a Blue Magic smoothie ($9ish). The Truffle Smash is basically an elaborate avocado toast entrée, with generous helpings of avocado, feta and sunflower seeds, with a side of scrambled eggs for good measure. This is legit, and something I'd get again. I've been yowling for years about how ridiculously overpriced avocado toast is (and it is, for the record), but at least this place offers two pieces of toast, which is increasingly becoming a rarity, and a solid helping of additional food to complement it. I'm always reluctant to go to healthier places like this because I'm still hungry enough afterwards to do something naughty - not this time. The smoothie though was TERRIBLE. I didn't even realize this was a pet peeve of mine because I've never encountered this issue before, but I can't stand a smoothie served at room temperature. I'm not claiming to be a huge smoothie expert, but I'd think one of the quintessential ingredients is ice, to give it the proper chill and consistency. The taste itself seemed fine, but I couldn't get more than a few sips down because of the warmth of the beverage. It's also possible that there were certain ingredients that, personal palate-wise, I need to be colder, like the peanut butter, but that was a huge disappointment, especially for the price. The service was perfectly fine. There were two fellows at the counter handling orders, and who were ready/able to take my order the minute I made my decision. My lunch came out probably 10 minutes later, max.One other issue I'd mention is the utilization of the café/dining space. I'm not sure how long this place has been here, but based on its appearance near the back where I sat, it looked like they were still moving in - they're treating a significant portion of the customer area as a storage closet, essentially, with boxes of supplies right out on the floor in plain view and it was actually a little difficult to figure out where to bus my plate because of the general chaos in that area. I don't know how big of a deal that is (and it's NYC - they literally may not have anywhere else to put that stuff) but it's not the most visually appealing situation. Your mileage may vary.I'd come back, but I can't sit here and say it would be at the top of my list or even towards the top.

The açaí bowl pictured is not what you get. Received mine half the size of the one shown with the açaí in frozen chunks. This place is more for the cute look...

The server at the register on Saturday, April 29th at 10am wasn't very kind to us. We are new to the area and have never been to this cafe. My friend asked the server if we should seat ourselves, because we didn't want to be rude and wanted to be aware of the proper seating etiquette. In response, the server made a face and said, "I guess." I understand that it's stressful to be the only one working the morning shift and handling all the orders, but a simple neutral "Yeah" would've sufficed. She also sounded annoyed with us when we were trying to order our food. I confronted her about the attitude and it seemed that she was better with other customers in the restaurant. The food overall was alright. Everything came out quickly since it wasn't too busy yet, which was a positive. However, one of my friend's tea order was wrong but we were too afraid to ask the server about it given our interaction earlier. We were excited to try this place because it looked very cute and relaxing but we just happened to catch the server at a bad time.

I love this spot for quick and delicious Australian brunch! There's plenty of seating and is perfect to hangout with friends! The barista, Madison, was very accommodating and welcoming! What we ordered:Flat whiteMatcha waffleVery berry açaí SmoothieBurrata tomato pesto sandwichHands down, I would recommend everything I got!The matcha waffle was soft and you could definitely taste the matcha! The smoothie was perfect - did not taste any added sugar which is what I like! I love burrata sandwiches and Wattle Cafe makes it perfectly!Overall, I would totally recommend for the great food, vibes and quick service!

Was gonna go somewhere else for breakfast but ended up here. Ordered "The Gong" off the menu plus a coffee. Not bad! Quiet and cute lil place.

Cold hard waffles, bitter coffee- disappointing. The avocado toast was ok, but hard to enjoy as my companions dishes were not edible.

Delicious food in a really cute space. I bet this would be a great place to have breakfast and do work in the morning. Would definitely come back!

Delicious and non-greasy breakfast in this part of town. The waffle however was a bit too dense for my liking. But the avocado did its job for me. Coffee was good quality.

Good coffee and service. Nice little spot. I really liked the Iced Latte. However the food was very average. The waffle was bland and the acai bowl’s base a little off.
