Too loud , expensive, over priced

My husband and I travel the world and consider ourselves foodies. While staying in NYC this week, we checked out Brass as it was participating in the summer NYC Restaurant Week and was near to the Morgan Library. It was a perfect choice!

The setting is lovely; truly a French brasserie vibe but filtered through a bit of an Art Nouveau lens. Our cozy booth was extremely comfortable and romantic, giving us a lovely view of the huge conservatory dome and the piano, as well as the bar. Despite all the glass above, the sound levels were excellent. We had no trouble conversing over our meal. Lovely touches included beautiful & functional fabric napkins (always a plus in my book), charming service plates, elegant thin-rimmed wineglasses, and fresh flowers.

From 7 pm onward, Brass provides superb live piano jazz every night they are open. I am afraid that I’ve forgotten the name of the player, but he had a *vast* repertoire. We were dining on the day that Ozzy Osborne passed away; I can think of very few performers who could play such gems as Crazy Train, Iron Man or The Wizard and make them 1) dinner jazz 2) not schmaltzy—yet he did it with
panache.

Note: I’m only now getting to the food and service!

We both enjoyed our pre-dinner beverages. I chose the Funny Valentine (a yummy version of an old-fashioned), while my husband the imported beer. Our meal selections from the prix fixe menu were excellent. After our salad course (green salad for the hubby and tomato salad for myself). My salad consisted of heirloom tomatoes and Sungold cherry tomatoes (which I grow at home), and was seasoned with carefully selected leaves of fresh tarragon, chopped chives and fresh chervil with delicately sliced shallots. Delicate and light, it was perfect for a summer salad. For our main courses, I chose the steak frites and my husband selected the chicken with asparagus. Both were prepared and presented very well. The steak was very rare (the way I like it), so be sure to ask for it to be a bit more well done if that is your preference. The chicken had a perfectly crisped skin which our waiter explained was due to it being cooked slowly á rouleau with the skin laid over the top. This kept the chicken deliciously tender while the skin was deliciously crisp. Mike’s asparagus was dressed with wonderful concoction of tiny slivers of different types of olive capers, and teensy currants. I sounds odd but it was quite delicious. All of the sauces were excellent from the green salad’s green goddess, the chicken’s demi-glace, to my á poivre sauce. Dessert was a dense, creamy flan and a raspberry granita with tonka ice cream. Delicious!

Service was immaculate, from water top-ups to drinks, with each course being presented with no haste or rush, allowing us to truly enjoy the meal. The busboy even came by twice to sweep up crumbs.

I highly recommend this restaurant for a romantic dinner or even a lovely, relaxing dinner with friends. The venue is lovely, with both superior food and service. 10/10

Our waiter told us the crabcake was the best he’d ever had—and he wasn’t lying. It was absolutely delicious.
Service was exceptional, super friendly and attentive.
The place was a bit loud, but overall, it was a great experience.

My partner and I celebrated our anniversary here and had the best time!
We had a 7:30 res and there was live music all night from when we got there. We put that it was our anniversary in our reservation so they congratulated us many times & brought our dessert out with a candle.
In terms of food and drink, the chicken breast, mussels, profiteroles and cocktails were just amazing. Everything came out super fast too. Our server was Matthew and he was very attentive and made sure we had the best time! Will be back :)
( Only comment is there are barely any vegetarian options and the portions aren’t very big - just some things to be aware of )

I came here for my birthday and everything was great! You can’t go wrong with any dish. Also, they have a sommelier who providing amazing drink recommendations. If you are there with a large group, I highly recommend the Amish Chicken. All the main courses were good: steak, trout, and tilefish. The desserts were good we had the yuzu tart, profiteroles, and chocolate ganache. I had a perfect birthday!

such a stunning experience from start to finish. met up with a friend for drinks at the brass bar on a random tues when tusk bar was full, and halfway through drinks a live piano player started playing. fab surprise!

I ended up not wanting to leave, had my bf come join post-drinks for dinner in the dining room — we split the steak (cooked perfectly to our liking), and then the popcorn ice cream dessert. so so good. just a really fun, no-fuss night. 10/10

We went to Brass for our anniversary and the hostess sat us by a non-ideal table by the bar / entrance. We asked if it was possible to move and she kindly put us in the main dining area.

Live music was great vibes, complimentary champagne was a nice gesture, and the food was delicious.

But the best part of the experience was Dipak’s service! He was *incredibly* knowledgeable about the menu and absolutely lovely to interact with. Definitely made our night - thank you, Dipak!

We ordered the signature $135 chicken and it was served raw. Incredibly slow service and what felt like a permanent attempts to upsell. The drinks were ok.

If you want service, it has to be improved. Food was great and ambiance! I come a lot to Tusk bar. However, at Brass the service with our server Mathew was non-existent. Other than introducing himself and taking the order and bringing a dessert menu 2.5 hours later he was not around at all. I had a client meeting and had to chase him for a glass of wine order. He then proceeded to pour different wine in the same glass that was empty from another type of wine. 🍷

When he was leaving his shift, I asked for a check. Instead of bringing a check, he said another server would bring it over. It never happened, had to go find the server. He did not check on food even once or ask if we needed anything. He did however make sure to charge for the wrong wine that was the most expensive on the list. Pure disappointment.
