I’m writing this because what happened during my recent visit to Breads Bakery was not simply a matter of poor service — it was a display of negligence and indifference that genuinely shocked me.

From the moment I arrived, there was confusion among the staff, a lack of basic courtesy, and an overall sense that no one was in charge. When I politely raised a concern about my order being mishandled, the manager’s attitude (said her name was Alicia she was of a bigger frame Caucasian lady with a bob cut …) was dismissive and condescending. Rather than de-escalate the situation or offer a reasonable solution, they doubled down with hostility and arrogance. It was unprofessional to a level that left every guest nearby visibly uncomfortable.

This was not a one-off lapse of manners; it reflected poor judgment and an alarming lack of basic customer-service training and leadership. A business with your reputation must ensure managers de-escalate, not weaponize security. I am requesting a formal response from management explaining why this escalation occurred, what steps you will take to retrain staff, and how you will restore trust with long-time customers.

As for the food — what arrived was stale, poorly presented, and clearly not fresh. It was deeply disappointing from a bakery that prides itself on quality. I’ve been a loyal customer for years, and this experience not only contradicted every standard I’ve come to expect, but also raised serious questions about management oversight and staff training.

I left embarrassed for having brought guests there and disheartened by how little care was shown at every step. It’s one thing to have an off day — it’s another to exhibit systemic disregard for customers’ time, money, and dignity.

I sincerely hope Breads Bakery takes this as an opportunity to reflect, retrain, and rebuild trust. What happened today was unacceptable on every professional level, and I will not be returning unless I hear that meaningful action has been taken.

1pm on a glorious Sunday in October. Tourists galore, with a line out the door. And one young woman working ONE register. Yes, ONE!

The chocolate babka is legendary for a reason. I had one bite, and that led me to go out of the store with three loaves, confident that my loved ones will like it.

Unfriendly cashier. No hello back or thank you or would you like a receipt, or where to go after paying for my cappuccino, just a blank face. The only words: After I ordered, she asked “Is that it?”

I only stopped in bc apparently Épicerie Boulud is closed. Shame.

Visited Breads Bakery during my recent trip to New York. Though it was a quick stop, I tried the Bureka and an Iced Coffee—both were absolutely delicious and instantly lifted my mood. The freshly baked Bureka was soft, flaky, and full of flavor.

What really stood out to me was the warm aroma of fresh baked goods that filled the air—it made the experience even more inviting. The staff were energetic, welcoming, and always smiling.

We also enjoyed the outdoor seating, which was clean, airy, and perfect for relaxing.

I’ll definitely be coming back to try more on my next visit to New York!

Quite disappointed today with a dry and almost burned baguette. Already saw in the store that they looked dark, asked for a lighter one but that still is little to enjoy. Wondering about attention to detail and quality lately.

Breads on Broadway has very good bread, and the pastries are solid too, but the experience ends there. Everything feels either overpriced or too small for what you’re paying, depending on how you look at it. For the quality, you can certainly find better value elsewhere in the neighborhood.

What really puts a damper on things, though, is the service. The staff come across as disengaged—unfriendly, unmotivated, and with a kind of flat, dismissive tone that makes you feel unwelcome. It’s the type of interaction where you sense the eye-roll even if it doesn’t happen. Good bread or not, I wouldn’t go back.
