I have been going here for years and it seems like the quality of the food isn't as I remember. The chicken dish used to be more creamy, but it's now very watery. The stuff cabbage didn't have much flavor. With that said, it was large portions and it's not like it doesn't taste good, just not the same. The poppy strudel hasn't changed though! The staff was really nice, that's always a plus?

Went here with the family 2 weeks ago and, as Hungarians, we were very impressed with both the food and service!

It is a far cry from what this place used to be when iT was called Andre not Budapest. Cakes are the size of door stops and taste the same. They are as authentically Hungarian as a three dollar bill. Meals are pathetic, poorly cooked probably off-site. I will stay away from here and recommend that you do the same. DON'T BELIEVE THE POSITIVE REVIEWS THEY ARE ALL FAKE.

The price of their pastry’s are not displayed, therefore they have been charging me different prices for the same pastry and when I had mentioned it the answer was the price just went up a few weeks ago (I had only bought the same pastry 3 days before). Not a good way to run a business!!!!!!

I join those before me.In this restaurant, the Hungarian names of the dishes are the only ones.Unfortunately, both courses were like fos...The food is a huge scam. And the "restaurant" is small and dirty. There was no alcohol right now, the server said. It's better to stay at the bakery, it's certainly delicious, but we didn't dare to try it after dinner.

Unfortunately, the quality of the food and the name of the store are not in the same relationship. This is not Hungarian quality.

Oh, wow. If the the lineup of pastries (kolaches?) in the window doesn't pull you in then the smells will. A must try when in Yorkville/UES.

Very disappointed. I’m so homesick and wanted to eat Hungarian food while in NYC. This food is not Hungarian at all and does not taste right! No one in that restaurant is from Hungary so why wear a Hungarian embroidered apron? The waitress is running around running the pastry-shop and the restaurant. Sad that this is the last place left from Hungarian immigrants here.

The Chicken Paprikash was almost gray in color which was pretty offputting. It tasted alright, I guess, but nothing special. Other reviewers said they suspected it was microwaved, and I would believe that based on a couple rubbery parts. It took a bizarrely long time to get the food. I was pretty disappointed overall. I got some pastries to go, and they were pretty good, so it wasn't a total waste. I wouldn't return nor would I recommend it to others.

The Dobos torte (7-layer cake topped with caramel for $8/slice) was decadent with the right level of sweetness. The chocolate buttercream was good but the sponge layers were a bit dry. Apparently the apple strudel is their bestseller so this may warrant another review. The staff was friendly and informative.
