The food is amazing the we had the New York Strip steak and it was amazing. You don't have to wait long for food at all and the staff can't do enough to help.
We booked Butcher and Banker for a special occasion. Pros: The wait staff did their best to be attentive and helpful. They did nice little extras like providing complimentary champagne for our occasion. The steaks we had were decent quality and what you would expect given the price point. Cons: The draft beer was flat and I was told that this was normal given “it travels too far” (I still had to pay for this), the filet was mysteriously burnt and raw, and we couldn't get water refilled to save our lives. Despite all this it would have been fine and something that would be easy to write off as staff having a bad evening. The biggest issue was simultaneously beyond yet within the restaurant's control- another patron was sat next to us with incredibly foul and overpowering perfume. This was obvious immediately and the restaurant was not full. I do not think any patron should be turned away, these individuals were polite and dressed appropriately, however rational management would seat them in a less crowded area given the restaurant was not busy. We didn't even finish our main course/drinks, nor did we order dessert. We got the check and left because my wife was feeling lightheaded. I was sad to end our evening on this note.
First time stopping in at Butcher and Banker and overall very disappointed. The restaurant is located in the basement of a run down hotel. The restaurant bathrooms smell like a grey hound terminal bathroom. Anyone from the street can walk in and use the bathrooms. The smell was awful. As I checked in with the host I mentioned the bathroom and she replied the bathrooms are taken care by the hotel and not the restaurant. Well okay then. The ambience was horrible with ugly wallpaper in the dinning area. The vibe was that not of a classic steak house. Waiters didn't check back in a timely manner on the food and drinks. The service was not that of a prominent steakhouse. The service and ambiance was so bad after one drink and appetizers we chose to go elsewhere.
The Butcher and Banker Steakhouse is a beautiful spot, but the experience was deeply flawed by poor service and maintenance. Our server was noticeably inattentive, visiting nearby tables far more frequently than ours. We had to flag him down multiple times, and he completely forgot to bring out my order of mushrooms and a drink, requiring us to remind him. To make matters worse, the bathrooms were dirty. While the atmosphere is great, the combination of slow, forgetful service and a lack of cleanliness seriously detracted from the overall dining experience.
Came here for a birthday dinner with friends and we were blown away! Everyone LOVED their meal, the lamb chops, steaks were flavorful and rich. Also must try those mini tacos, they pack a punch in a beautiful way! Ambiance is great, staff are top notch. We shall be back!
Disappointing Experience — tourist trap To start, I've never been to a restaurant that reminded me of the dress code multiple times, only to show up and feel wildly overdressed. Frankly, it wasn't even worth changing out of my sneakers for. I ordered a burger, specifically asked for it medium rare—leaning rare—and the waiter reassured me it would be pink. It arrived completely overcooked. For $29 you'd think they could cook a burger properly. To make matters worse, it was clearly a pre-made patty. Absolutely not worth the price. The hostess was completely unorganized. It took 20 minutes just to connect with the rest of our party. No communication, no direction—just confusion. They also seated a group of 30 people right next to us. If I wanted to dine in a banquet hall, I would have booked one. And finally, the cherry on top: my husband walked into the men's room to find someone washing their feet in the sink. That pretty much sums it up. Overpriced, overrated, and poorly managed. Never agai
It was our first time at Butcher and Banker NYC and it won't be our last. The service was impeccable and the food was excellent. The lighting was a bit dark for me but it did not deter me from ordering. My daughter had the lamb and I had the fillet. Both were delicious! We ordered the apple tart for dessert and it was amazing. We will definitely go back the next time we visit NYC.
The filet mignon was flawless… tender, perfectly cooked, and packed with flavour. Great service and a unique vault setting make this one of the better steak experiences in New York!

Lovely place great people, food was absolutely the worst. I ordered a cowboy style steak and it was almost completely rubber. The lobster Mac and cheese was yesterday’s and was stale. Definitely not a winner. I spent 300 +- for a super disappointing dinner

I chose this location to meet an old colleague I hadn't seen in years because of its convenience to the station. I arrived a little early and asked to be seated, but was told I'd have to wait until my full party arrived. While I understand that's standard policy, it was 5:30 with plenty of open tables. I would have happily ordered a drink while waiting, but the bar was already full, leaving me awkwardly standing in the entry hallway with nowhere to sit. Once we were seated, the experience felt rushed from the start. After ordering drinks, we tried to put in an appetizer order, but our server told us that because it was a busy night we'd need to order everything at once. That struck me as less than hospitable, especially for a steakhouse at this price point. The manager did stop by to ask if we were attending the concert nearby so they could time the meal accordingly, but we explained we weren't in a rush. The food itself was very good, but the service and overall experience left something to be desired. By the time we left shortly before 8:00 p.m., the dining room still had plenty of empty tables, which made the earlier pressure feel unnecessary. Perhaps it was just an off night, but based on this visit, the experience didn't quite match the level I'd expect from a steakhouse in this category

We thought the food was very good as was the service, however they called us 30 min prior to arrival to let us know about their dress code.....We appreciated the nice dress code when we made our reservation but when we arrived there were many people who were not dressed at all! In fact they were in cargo shorts and some in dirty tee shirts! Oh well... that is what brought our overall experience down from very good to good....
After 3 long days of working a fashion trade show in New York City, this was just what we needed! They treated us like queens, the food was FABULOUS, and the atmosphere amazing! Will go back again👏👏👏👏👏
Great atmosphere and food! We had a show at MSG and was trying to find something delicious to start off the night. This restaurant was great, as was the service. Really fun experience eating in a bank vault!
Ordered Filet Mignon but what I got was a very tough chunk of beef that it wasn't even close to a filet mignon.
Great food and service. Being inside the vault can be a little noisy Love the atmosphere and decor.
