We met an elderly family friend for lunch so needed a nice place within an easy walk. Cacio e Pepe 78/1st, was recommended by her friend in the bldg so we went there about 12:30 on a Saturday. Just a few tables occupied and we were seated at a lovely table by the front windows to enjoy the sun.
Our friend is hard of hearing and still adjusting to hearing aids so she speaks very loudly. We were glad most other diners were in the rear of the room for their sake. The waitstaff and Maitre D’ could NOT have been nicer about to us. So understanding of the challenge and very attentive.
I started with the arugula salad with pears…such a light and tasty dressing, generous serving. Meatball and eggplant appetizers were so delish!! My friend said the eggplant was light and flavorful like her mother used to make.
Hubby and I had the Cacio e Pepe…of course . I’ve never had it before and now I think the standard is set very high! Just wonderful and prepared in the cheese wheel at the table. Our friend had the chicken cutlets with potatoes and vegetables…she ate almost everything !
Dessert we all tasted the tiramisu. I’m not a big fan of that dessert but this was light and airy and the perfect ending. I also love when you just order a glass of wine and it’s perfect .
Ok…the ending of this…the chef comes out to say goodbye when we are leaving . Of course we gushed over everything .
If you are on the UES and need a place to eat…don’t hesitate and make a reservation at Cacio e Pepe. You’ll be glad you did!

In a city packed with Italian restaurants, Cacio e Pepe remains a longtime favorite.
The signature dish, as well as a few others, is freshly prepared tableside. The balance in the dish between the creamy cheese and peppercorns is perfect. The polpettine, the eggplant parmesan, and the saltimbocca are outstanding as well.
Desserts range from a signature tiramisu to a popcorn gelato that will leave you wanting more.
Cacio e Pepe also offers a wonderful selection of authentic Italian wines to accompany your meal.
Top this off with a professional and attentive staff for a perfect night out ala Roma.
Highly recommended.

Calm and cozy neighborhood restaurant. Food is good .. not cheap, not super expensive... The atmosphere is ok, almost like a mid-level Italian restaurant in any town, nothing special... Homemade pasta is not amazing, just ok. There are better options in the neighborhood, if you are willing to wait or plan ahead.
Dietary restrictions: Only a few options, and few may be modified for dietary restrictions such as gluten.
Parking: Paid parking.. better to take subway
Kid-friendliness: May have interesting enough options

I loved this place!
The pasta is very rich and at the point it should be. The attention is excellent from the beginning (Mario is the best) and if you are lucky, Don Lupe (quite a character) will entertain you with his stories.
If you come here you must try whether or not the Caccio (the pasta made with cheese) is delicious. The desserts are something else that does not disappoint. The plates seem small, but in the end you will discover that they are the ideal portion.
In short, with good company this is a place you will love. I will definitely return!

I always enjoy dining at Cacio e Pepe Uptown. Salvatore is a master of blending flavors that are unique and wonderful. Tonight I had the ricotta ravioli which sounds commonplace. But the rabbit ragu and roasted mortadella made it very special - it was wonderful. I tasted the seafood risotto that was very creamy and filled with seafood that was cooked just right. I usually have the Insalata 10, 20, 30 which is always fresh and delicious and a great way to start a meal. For dessert, we shared the tiramisù which is like no other tiramisù I've ever tasted. There is an Amaretto "tiramisù", seems like an Amaretto pudding, with apricot sauce on the side, and a cup of espresso granita which was fabulous and a great addition to the rest of the dessert. This was just a normal meal at Cacio e Pepe Uptown - it's always an adventure in sophisticated and delicious Italian dining.
Consistently Excellent food and service and Chef Salvatore very accommodating to kid's food requests. Bartenders very knowledgeable and service staff aways attend to every request.
We were celebrating a birthday and came to Cacio et Pepe for their signature dish. We were not disappointed. it is a treat, from the presentation in a scooped out wheel of Parmigiana, to the luscious, rich, and tasty eating in an oversized bowl. The Caesar Salad got rave reviews, and the Tiramisu served in a miniature flowerpot with cocoa and two mint leaves on the top was adorable and delicious. The service was wonderfully attentive, A fine and enjoyable meal, and we'll be back.
It's not the biggest overall selection. A few main staples, however, the Tonnerelli (Cacio e Pepe) can have a lot of peppercorns, so if you're not prepared for that or if you don't like them... the fettuccine is on point.

We decided to try this place on a whim and it did not disappoint! From the moment we walked in, the chef greeted us at the door and our servers were friendly and attentive. What really blew us away though was the food! We tried the 6-course tasting menu along with the wine pairing and this was, perhaps, one of the best meals at an Italian restaurant that we had the pleasure of enjoying. The dishes were creative and absolutely delicious in both expected and unexpected ways! Of course, the cacio e pepe was exquisite, but one of our most delightful surprises had to be the salmon tartare topped with wasabi gelato. Highly recommend and we will certainly be back!

They offered the Restuarant Week dinner menu for $45 but if you looked on the regular menu, thier prix fixe deal was also $45 with the same appetizers, same entrees and better desserts on the regular prix fixe menu. So the RW deal was not really a special deal However the food was very good, portions were just adequate, service was excellent.
Our party of 5 enjoyed the Restaurant Week menu for dinner on a Monday . Delicious ! The salmon tartare with wasabi ice was heavenly, the house special pasta mouth-watering, the broiled salmon was scrumptious. The service was on point . Would one hundred percent return!
