I had a terrible experience here. It was honestly some of the worst service I’ve ever received. The staff were extremely rude, and the servers kept hovering as if they wanted us to leave. We were rushed so much that I didn’t even feel comfortable ordering anything beyond a drink. The whole vibe was off. My friends and I left feeling disappointed and pushed out, and we had only come for coffee and breakfast. I would not recommend this place.

very cute place but unfortunately the service is quite bad—we were fully ignored when we tried to order and tables that were sat after us ordered and received their food way before we were even acknowledged. i understand they are busy but it felt malicious, considering we also kept getting dirty looks. food was quite expensive but mediocre at best :,(

We used to come to this place all the time when we lived in New York. Came back to visit and the food has definitely gone downhill. The mocha was not as on point as it used to be, orange olive dish was too salty, baked eggs were bland; service was fine but not friendly, and the vibe was mostly empty. Admittedly it was a Thursday morning rather than a weekend but unfortunately I don’t think we’ll be coming back.

Cool, old school atmosphere. Their menu is limited because the kitchen equipment is limited. Really just a great spot to come for a beer or a glass of wine.

Worst bruschetta of my life lol. Bland and the tomato wasn’t diced so the huge chunks kept on falling off the bread. Service was decent but that was about it unfortunately.
Café Gitane in SoHo is a charming spot that blends French and Moroccan flavors in a unique and cozy setting. It has that neighborhood feel, tucked away but very much a local favorite. The service is warm and attentive, which adds to the overall experience.
We tried the Chicken Parmesan sandwich, which was excellent — flavorful, hearty, and well balanced. The hamburger was just okay, not bad but nothing particularly special compared to other options in the area.
The atmosphere is quite lively and on the louder side, with the space itself being relatively small, so don’t expect a quiet or spacious dining experience. That said, it’s part of the charm: it feels authentic, bustling, and very local.
Overall, Café Gitane is a great stop if you’re in SoHo and looking for a casual place with character, good service, and tasty food that mixes French bistro classics with Moroccan touches.

Café Gitane really does have it all. That picture perfect faux French neighborhood vibe, impossibly charming staff who clearly took a vow never to move faster than a gentle breeze, in a way that keeps you lingering long enough to reconsider life choices. Service? Well, let’s just say it’s possible nobody here has actually worked before, or maybe they’re just keeping the family trust fund warm. Either way, it’s part of the charm and they are very cute. But I’ll be back, because my unresolved childhood trauma compels me to fight for scraps of food, drink and attention in places exactly like this. Santé.

Classic NYC bistro. Highly recommend
such a cute place with super yummy food
Great couscous. Hilarious atmosphere
My favorite place to go when I come to town. Food was absolutely fabulous, the staff was friendly, professional, and always smiling, and the owner, Luc, is always there to greet you with a big smile. So happy I found this fun SoHo cafe. I feel like I'm back in Paris!
