We used to come to this place all the time when we lived in New York. Came back to visit and the food has definitely gone downhill. The mocha was not as on point as it used to be, orange olive dish was too salty, baked eggs were bland; service was fine but not friendly, and the vibe was mostly empty. Admittedly it was a Thursday morning rather than a weekend but unfortunately I don’t think we’ll be coming back.
Café Gitane in SoHo is a charming spot that blends French and Moroccan flavors in a unique and cozy setting. It has that neighborhood feel, tucked away but very much a local favorite. The service is warm and attentive, which adds to the overall experience.

Café Gitane really does have it all. That picture perfect faux French neighborhood vibe, impossibly charming staff who clearly took a vow never to move faster than a gentle breeze, in a way that keeps you lingering long enough to reconsider life choices. Service? Well, let’s just say it’s possible nobody here has actually worked before, or maybe they’re just keeping the family trust fund warm.
