I’ve been to Chama Mama (the restaurant) before and loved it. And I finally got around to trying the bakery attached to it- highly recommend checking it out!! We tried:
- the spinach pie: savory spinach goodness
- the mushroom pie: same as above but with mushroom
- the “cigarette-shaped” pastries: they’re akin to walnut cinnamon sugar cookies (these were my favorites of the haul)
- their signature bread: I forget the name but 10/10 no notes and looking forward to making little toasts at home with it this week
The space is like a hole in the wall with a bench out front. Worth the detour!

Absolutely incredible experience at Chama Mama!
The food was rich, flavorful, and truly felt like a journey into Georgian cuisine. The khachapuri was perfection — crispy on the outside, warm and cheesy on the inside — and the khinkali were juicy and full of flavor. Every dish tasted homemade and cooked with real care.
The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, and the staff made us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. It’s the perfect place to share plates, enjoy amazing wine, and discover something new and delicious.
Hands down one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in NYC. Can’t wait to come back!

I had a great experience my first few times at this restaurant but the last few times have been a total miss. My guest was served salmon as her entree which was very dry and tasteless. I was served chicken breast which was boring and unappealing. We deserved much better quality food for the pricing at this restaurant.

My partner and I called in last minute for two. The host accommodated us and was quick to seat us upon arrival. That was the best part of our experience at the 49th st location. Someone (who we thought was our servicer) provided us water. Then we waited for who was our servicer to finally take our order. This was the last time we saw him. I’m all for teamwork, but three different people brought us our drinks and food that wasn’t our server. I order a soup and my partner ordered the soup dumplings and a side of crispy potatoes. She received her order and I received my drink. After waiting more than 20 min after she received her meal I was finally fed up and told someone who wasn’t our server to please provide us our check and there’s no need for the soup anymore. Our server did not ONCE approach us to ask how we are doing or to refill our water or order another cocktail. The employee attempted to offer our soup to go or something else but at that point our experience was ruined and we kindly declined. I feel terrible that my fiance even recommended this place because she was excited for me to try it. First time customer and definitely my last.

Food was fine, but portion / price point is very much off. $26 for 5 pieces of chicken that comes with nothing.. no fries, no salad, no bread. $14 appetizer that is a table spoon of spread.. also comes with no bread. Honey cake was the flattest cake I have ever seen and it tasted burnt. I like the ambiance, but everything else was just ok at most.

We had the loveliest dinner last night at the Montague St. location. Jemali walked us through each course with extensive knowledge and enthusiasm, but his amiable personality stood out the most. The food itself was rich in flavor and presented well, and their cocktail/wine selection is intentional in quality. This was our first time trying Georgian food, and it exceeded expectations. They also had multiple options suitable for vegetarians and vegans. We’ll most certainly be back.
