Service was efficient and attentive without being overbearing. Atmosphere was very French without the kitsch. We were only two, so we didn't taste very many dishes, but the onion soup was excellent, as well as the country pate and savory soufflé. Dessert was a delicious French apple tart. Then the server brought us a wonderful after-dinner drink on the house. I very highly recommend Chez Francis.

Let me start off by saying that I believe my experience here to be an anomaly. In my experience, the food was wonderful but the service was extremely disappointing. That said, every other table looked happy with their experience.
It took over 15 minutes for a server to come to our table. After maybe 13 minutes , the hostess pointed our table out to a server, who still didn’t check in on us… until she nudged him multiple times. During this time, two different people who appeared to be managers looked over at our table multiple times too! Usually, after a table has been waiting for that long someone would at least acknowledge that we’ve been waiting for too long, etc. Our server did no such thing, and the manager seemed to not know either.
Beyond that, our server didn’t check in about our food— neither after our appetizer arrived, nor after our mains arrived. The manager checked in at the end of our appetizer.
Both drinks we ordered were off balance. I would not order escargots again (I have had much better escargots at several other French spots in the city). The burger and bavette steak were both delicious.
The restaurant is beautiful, and the ambiance was lovely (not too loud, which I care a lot about). Like I said earlier, other tables seemed to be having a great time. It was a conflicting experience because overall the food was good. I’m not sure if I’ll give it a second chance, especially with so many other great French spots in the area.

Service and atmosphere were great with live music even. Food was not quite as good. Nice French wine selection.

I stopped at Chez Francis for a quick bite on my way to meet a friend. I was very impressed by the food, service, wine, and place. The space has a nice quiet bistro vibe. The steak crostini were innovative and super delicious. The steak tartare is a definitely must too! The wine pairings suggested by the bartender, especially the Burgundy, were fantastic!

The restaurant is lovely, very nice ambiance. We had the best waiter Jason, French speaker, funny, entertaining with great knowledge about the French cuisine. I can't wait to go back. I had the choucroute de la mer, it was excellent.

Delicious and authentic French food, combined with maybe the best service I have had in the city in a while. Absolutely love the foie gras, the duck and their soufflé.

Absolute highlight of our New York visit. We ate here twice in 3 days. Nice atmosphere, excellent food and very friendly, competent service. The soufflé is legendary (you have to try it!!), boeuf bourgignon melts in the mouth and so on.

Ouch, if a french restaurant is empty on a Friday night that says something. But since we were tourists we didn't know better. From super cringe service to bland escargots, not sure what else could have gone wrong, but we finished our wine and left not trying mains. Probably once upon a time was a place to be, and we wish the owners to find the way back to it!

The best thing about this place is the crew! Excellent staff who go out of their way to make your time there better. We had the Frissé aux Lardons which was delicious. Probably one of the rare few times I've found a salad I actually liked! The Tuna tartare was classic and good. And the bistro burger was delicious. Well cooked and well seasoned!
We would definitely return!
