We had lunch/brunch today on a very rainy day in NYC. This small French bistro is housed in one of the most iconic restaurant locations in the city, the old Les Halles. Suffice to say, you will not have a better French bistro experience in the city. Balthazar has nothing on this restaurant. Hospitality was gracious and accommodating. The manager was kind enough to do a table visit to welcome us. Food was superb. Salad Niçoise was spot on as was the classic French omelet. Profiteroles were a delicious conclusion to lunch. Run. Do not walk to this restaurant, and enjoy.

The food was, of course, fantastic, and the wine selection paired beautifully. The steak au poivre was served flambe, a wonderful presentation which caught the attention (and envy!) of everyone nearby.

This is my favorite French bistro in NYC. Delicious food, with extraordinary steak tartare, but many other great dishes too. Excellent cocktails.

Chez Francis is a lovely French restaurant in the heart of Murray Hill. They occupy the former Les Halles spot that I frequented for many years in the early 2000's. The service was excellent and friendly without being intrusive. We enjoy dining at a leisurely pace as the restaurant is still pretty new and had plenty of availability. I assume will change as more people find out about it. For starters, we chose two cheeses (Comte and Camembart) with duck and fig terrine which was prob the best terrine I've had. My sister also ordered the escargot which had a delicious garlic sauce. For mains, I went with the canard with cherry sauce and her the Bouef Bourguignon. The duck was prepared perfectly at medium and was not sinewy, which is usually the case at many places I've dined at. However, the star of the evening was the Bourguignon. It was so tender and flavourful, and I could drink the sauce without the accompanying mashed potatoes. We ended with the souffle which was on the house. I personally could have used a bit more sugar as it tasted a bit too eggy. I can't wait to get back to Chez Francis to try their other dishes as this is such a lovely (and necessary) French restaurant in this part of the city.

We loved the service, the atmosphere, the cocktails and the desserts.Only the very smallest complaints!Bread and butter: I was really hoping for a richly flavored French butter, perhaps something tangy and cultured even. Unfortunately we got just flat grocery store style butter.Le Canard: Almost perfect! Needed a bit more salt.Beouf Bourguignon: Salted a bit too much, in order to balance well with the not-salty pomme puree. Portion of puree was too small, so the remainder of the stew was very salty.

Great restaurant, awesome atmosphere and great service, we loved it all. Awesome appetizers. Tart with mushrooms and lardon, tuna tartar and foie gras were great. For the main dish we had beef bourguignon, the beef was good but the sauce was a little bit watery for my taste, I think it would be much better if it was reduced a little more before serving. Other than that everything was great, the manager was really nice and corrected the mistake on the spot, very professional.

We ate here last night and it was divine in every way. Our waiter, Joshua was very knowledgeable and fun. I had the steak frites and my boyfriend had the Branzino both dishes were scrumptious. The bernaise sauce and fries were very much in the Anthony Boudain tradition. I hear the frogs legs will be returning to the menu! Definitely will return on a regular basis. Oh and the interior is quite lovely!

The steak frites is wonderful! The steak is cooked perfect, the source is delicious and the fries are so crunchy. I would come back just for this dish.

Nice atmosphere and decor, with tables not on top of each other. For a French bistrot style, the food is good.I have been twice which is enough at present.Looking for new places.

Classic French cuisine in Rose Hill. It's the complete package but the package doesn't come cheap. We've gone several times and are looking forward to returning.
