Denied service while coming into an empty restaurant attempting to try their $35 dessert for me and my wife. Ended up going around the corner at Le Tout Va Bien. Way better service and we should have come here first. Fantastic creme brulée.

Wish I could give it more starts. Leave your phone at home and take this Time Machine back to better times. Excellent service and drinks - I highly recommend the Blood Bath. I will definitely be coming back

We had a wonderful waitress. The cocktails were delicious, the food outstanding and a nice list of wines by the glass. Can’t wait for our next visit.🍷

The food was good, but not great. The souffles were large, but lacking a bit in flavor. I love french food and live nearby, but haven't gone back.

Tonight we took a risk on a restaurant I have walked past, (and peeked in the window), many times. Chez Napoleon 365 W50th St quite close to 9th Ave.

Opened in 1960, it’s an old school French restaurant that is both charming and cheeky. They have a sign that reads along the lines of, “If you take a picture of your food we will give you a complementary roll of the eyes.” They take their food VERY seriously while having a little fun with their own attitude.

The service is superb! Unrushed, friendly with humor and charm.

My wife has asparagus soup & sole (just delightful) and I had a green salad and the cassoulet. This is something I often make for my father around the holidays and theirs is FAR superior to my own. I have a LOT to learn!

We finished the night with a soufflé with raspberry sauce. I could’ve eaten a thousand of them! Absolutely delightful.

No food pictures, because I didn’t wanna get in trouble!

We’ll be back!

Lovely restaurant! Great food and excellent service. Definitely one of the most authentic and delicious French restaurants. The boar stew was perfect and the steak I ordered was too. The owner (and my waitress) used to be a gold medal slalom skier in the 60s- lots of good conversation available if you speak French too. Adorable little hole in the wall gem! Highly recommend

Chez Napoleon claims to be the oldest French restaurant on the Eastern seaboard. I'm too lazy to verify if that's true, but I do know that they offer the quintessential, old timey, mom 'n' pop French bistro experience--something that is increasingly becoming obsolete even in France. Go here, before they succumb to corrupt capitalist forces.

The cold, creamy Soupe Vichyssoise was the perfect start to our meal, while the garlicky Escargots de Bourgogne whet our palates for all flavors French. For entrees, we got the Lapin "Marguerite", which came in a fantastic mustard and white wine sauce, and the Sautéed Soft Shell Crabs in absinthe-infused garlic butter. My only complaint is that there wasn't enough crab--I could've done with at least one more.

Any bad feelings were erased when we got our giant Grand Marnier Soufflé, which arrived in less than an hour. It was airy, creamy and fluffier than a pomeranian's first blowout. Mmmm....souffleranian.

So… this brief note may tell you everything..
We were at Chez Napoleon the day after it re-opened after quite an “odyssey” (thankfully they were able to open…) back in December 2022. We are coming back - now a group of six - this coming week because we just loved this quaint place and thought… this is fast becoming our “anchor place…” it is real.. real good food and joy … and we love the atmosphere and super good dishes… we think it’s easily a ????? for the sum of all parts. Merci!
