My husband and I love Chow House on Bleecker Street! We come here all the time and always order the Chong Qing chicken — it’s our absolute favorite dish. The flavors are bold, the service is great, and the vibe is always welcoming. Highly recommend!

Disclaimer: this isn’t a review of the actual food because I was discriminated against and refused service. This is a warning so that others can avoid having the same experience. If you are brown or black or are with someone who is brown or black, please do not come to this restaurant. Save yourself and/or whoever you’re with the blatant disrespect and prejudice.

I was recently in NYC for work. I wanted to get a quick bite before heading to a broadway show. I was in the mood for Chinese but didnt have time to go to Chinatown and this place was within walking distance to where I was staying and had decent reviews, so I decided to try it out. I walked in and politely asked for a table and a guy working there told me the kitchen was closed and I need to leave. I asked when it would reopen and he said he didn’t know and I needed to go and he walked over to the front door, held it open and motioned for me to leave. Mind you, it was 6 PM on a Thursday and the place was empty apart from three tables. Also while I was there, being told the kitchen was closed, a server had just brought out food to one of those three tables, the women at the front desk was on the phone taking an order and an Uber Eats delivery guy had just come in to pick up another order. Clearly the kitchen was not closed.

I have never had an experience like that where I was flat out refused service at a restaurant that was obviously open. I left so confused and upset at what just happened. I decided to look through more of the reviews to see if this is a thing and try to make sense of it and sure enough, I found a handful of other reviews of people being denied service and told to leave or people being seated downstairs in the basement when the restaurant was basically empty.

There are plenty of other restaurants in the area that are not only better and will welcome your business, but will also treat you with kindness and respect. Don’t waste your money here.

Been coming here for years.
Love their traditional Szechuan dishes, also their whole fish dish is also amazingly tender, spicy and numbing.

I come here if I’m near soho to do shopping and happens to be hungry. Never really had an issue with them. The service is okay, portions are decent and prices are decent as well considering the location it’s at.

Only thing it I had a minor issue was the lo mein is on the oily side instead of dry and lacking char. I was really craving some egg noodles for a longtime and was hoping it would satisfy my appetite. Other than that, they are consistent with their dishes.

This might be one of my favorite Chinese food restaurants ever. I have had the Smoked Tea Duck twice before at other places but the one at Chow House is easily my favorite duck meal ever! It is crispy, perfectly cooked, full of flavor! I was also amazed by how good the onions were in the beef scallion dish. Still had a bite to them and were delicious. Also the atmosphere is cozy as well.
I will definitely come back more than once to try everything!

This is a very good find for a lunch spot where they have some great deals at lunch where the meal comes with Hot and sour soup or egg rolls, the dishes also come with a choice of rices and what good specials they have, General Tso Chicken or pepper beef and Ma Po tofu and shredded pork with garlic sauce.
Good design, decent service and a good location, this spot is a hidden gem and not to be missed at lunch time, same menu is almost double the price for dinner.
We come here for lunch is much better than the takeout portions.
Will be back, keep up the great service.

Very busy restaurant. I would definitely recommend the beef with scallions. The general tso’s chicken had a lot of breading but was still solid.

Empty on a Saturday night in the busiest season in NYC. Says a lot. Wonton soup was good but the quangqing chicken was more peppers than chicken and wasn’t very good. I then ordered general tso chicken instead and it was more breading than chicken. They charged me for both so I just ate my losses and left.

Great place. We didn't have a reservation and they still got us in promptly. The service was friendly and helpful. The pork lo mein was great. We fed 5 people well for a little over hundred $ so that was great for NYC. Would definitely go again.
