As a longtime loyal customer, of over two decades, I have always appreciated the quality of the produce and the overall shopping experience at Citarella. However, today’s encounter with Damian, in the fish department, has left me questioning my loyalty, largely due to the interaction that my husband I had with this individual. It’s clear that Damian lacks the essential qualities of customer service that are vital in retail, especially in a fish department, where expertise and guidance are highly valued.
Today, when my husband approached the fish counter, his experience was far from pleasant. Instead of a welcoming greeting, Damian responded with an irritated tone, when my husband inquired about the availability of tuna. Damian demonstrated a dismissive and irritated attitude, making it clear that my husband was bothering him, simply by trying to make a purchase.
It is truly disheartening to witness someone like Damian, who lacks the fundamental skills of courtesy and respect, in a position that requires a positive customer centric attitude.
To Citarella management:
It's difficult to understand why an individual with such a negative and dis-respectful demeanor is allowed to represent your esteemed store and brand. This experience left us feeling incredibly disappointed and frustrated, and after more than two decades as regular and loyal customers, prompting us to reevaluate whether we will shop at Citarella in future!
Over the last two years, there has been a notable decline in customer centricity and customer service at your UWS location. We sincerely hope that management will revisit and re-evaluates hiring practices to reverse this rapid and systemic decline. Additionally, it is critical the Citarella institute regular and on-going training, to ensure that all employees understand the importance of treating customers with the respect and courtesy.
We ordered catering from them for 30 people and received really tiny amount of food; definitely not enough for 30 people. Extremely overpriced.
I have had a few things stolen here over the years. Yesterday was the last straw- my CC was stolen right after I used it and a fraudulent charge was made. Putting this here in case this has happened to others.
This is just a fantastic grocery store! The products.. especially the fish and meats are just top notch.. and the people that work there are even more amazing... Samantha and Kaliq are simply the best and one of the reasons me and my wife continue to shop at that location!

Clean, delicious, fresh, great variety, great prices. Wish we had one at home.
Citarella on the UWS is the best place to grocery shop, especially if you happen to be there when Samantha or Kaliq are working! They are so so kind, quite knowledgeable, and helpful. I am just always impressed with the quality of meats, but even more by the service of amazing employees like Samantha and Kaliq!
the folks at the cheese counter were very pleasant and helpful despite the customer ahead of me being rude and entitled towards them.
The only place left in the city that sells quality produce and fresh fish, worth the $$$
Every time I go into Citarella, I am impressed with the quality of the prepared foods and the fish. They also have a great selection of mushrooms and fresh vegetables. While I have yet to sample the meats at Citarella, they look as fresh and delicious as the fish. A unique and much loved staple of the Upper West Side.
