Food was really good! Everything we had was excellent. Especially liked the crudo, corn, and octopus. Drinks were decent too. I had the peachy and it was pretty good.

The food here was excellent. The panko shrimp are really large and meaty, and everything else we ordered was great too - this place deserves to be busier.

The group of clients inside too noisy. Uni pasta too salty .

Epic visit. Staff is super kind. Cocktails are well thought out. Really enjoyed the smoky Negroni. Felt like being in Kyoto. Can’t wait to come back.

An Evening of Class on 38th Street

On a recent Wednesday evening—September 10th at 7 PM—I stepped into a snug little spot on 38th Street to find it buzzing. The room was packed with young professionals, businessmen, and stylish women. My longtime friend Jeff and I blended into the lively crowd.

Full disclosure: I know the chef-owner personally, and this meal was generously hosted by my childhood friend. Still, as always, my words are honest.

The space is intimate, jewel-box small, glowing with dim light—sophisticated yet relaxed. Details matter here: polished silverware, sparkling glassware, a tiny table lamp. These small touches elevate the atmosphere and remind you dining is as much ritual as flavor.

Plates arrived swiftly despite the crowd. The food leaned Franco-Japanese, evoking Morimoto, Nobu, and Masa—an homage rather than imitation.

Two dishes stood out. The chicken thigh yakitori was sublime: grilled to perfection, dusted with sansho and peppercorns, and served on an antique-rimmed plate. Proof that the simplest dishes are often the hardest—and most rewarding. The truffle rice was equally memorable. During my three-week vacation back home in New York City, I’d avoided rice and carbs entirely, but this dish broke my resolve. Fragrant koshihikari, laced with truffle, finished with those irresistible crunchy bottom bits—I polished off the bowl without hesitation.

Cocktails, too, were playful and thoughtful, nodding to Queens and Brooklyn nightlife with green tea spirits and karaoke-inspired twists.

By the end, I marveled at how alive the restaurant felt for a Wednesday night. Packed, vibrant, and delicious. I’ll gladly return on my next trip, and I congratulate the chef-owner: holding one’s own on 38th Street is no small feat—and this place does it with grace and flavor.

Food was amazing. We had the crudo (excellent choice for appetizer), octopus, branzino, salmon ikura and the vegan mushroom bowl. Everything was very tasty.
Service was subpar. There was 4 of us and one of us got their drink 10 mnts later than everyone else, and one of us got their entree 10 minutes after everyone else!
But the quality and taste of food definitely made up for it. Would 100% go back!

I had the pleasure of dining at Class on 38 and it was truly an exceptional experience from start to finish.

Every dish was beautifully presented and even better tasting. You can tell there’s a focus on high-quality ingredients and execution. My personal favorites were Japanese street corn, hamachi Kama, Kuro pork cheeks and king ebi! All the cocktails were also excellent!

This is the kind of restaurant that instantly becomes your “go-to” recommendation for friends, colleagues, or a special night out. A true gem on 38th. Can’t wait to return.

Don't let the small unassuming space fool you: they serve BIG flavors! I'm craving their Miso Grilled Cabbage and Truffle Mushroom Kamameshi right now. Who ever crave a cabbage dish??

The scallop crudo is so light and refreshing I can have it every day. The Octopus Yaki is the right kind of char with a nice hint of spiciness in the coulis that makes you want to sop it with some bread so you get every last bit.

My favorite dish is taking a rest for the summer but will be back in the winter: Agedashu Tofu. This one I dream about. The dashi is so rich and delightful that I order one for appetizers and another to go with the cabbage and kamameshi. I can't wait for it to come back.

Also, their oysters with the magical yuzu mignonette is a burst of citrusy, bubbly goodness in your mouth. Very different than your typical raw oysters but oh so good.

Don't sleep on the craft cocktails either. The Smoked Tea Negroni is a show, while the Tea Ceremony is a delicious elevated matcha cocktail that is such an easy drink you can have so many. Great happy hour menu, too.

I'm so glad I found it on Google Maps and walked in one evening to try it out. It's an intimate space; buzzy but not too loud — a great date spot. Everyone from the host to the bartender to the owner is friendly and welcoming. So do yourself a favor and come to CLASS.

CLASS on 38th - manager or owner, feel free to reach out to me directly to discuss. I just dined at the restaurant with two other people (total three guests) and our server named Stan, charged 25% tip to our check. He did it in a very sneaky way before handing me the card processing machine, thinking I wouldn’t notice.
