Great spot and atmosphere. You get decent food and nice servings. I would avoid the red wine selection by the glass, they very kindly replaced a glass I didn’t like with another wine while I did not say anything it was just as bad. (Valpolicella and Super Tuscan) the white was decent Vermoentino)

It was our first visit to Cotenna, and we will go again. The space is cozy—there is just enough room for a bar and a row of tables, but it feels spacious. Our servers were charming and helpful. But what you want to know about a restaurant is the food, and this is food we'll go back for. We both had the pasta; an orecchiette and a ravioli. They were fresh, full of taste, cooked to the perfect moment.

This is a truly excellent restaurant. Everything about it is first rate except the beer list. It is a small old style NY restaurant with about 30 seats. It has an excellent Italian menu. All of the dishes are delicious. It is completely unfussy. I hate to write a review this positive because it might make it difficult for me to get a table iln the future.

We loved the total experience💯: the food quality, the wine, and warm and hospitable service in a cozy atmosphere downtown. We'll be back for sure🧡

I reserved a table and was sat in the window. We were never checked on during the meal and had to call over the waitress many times asking for the same items. Food was good, but nothing immaculate. The wine was amazing - so if you just want a drink it's a good spot!

Unfortunately didn't enjoy this experience, was seated across the road at a sister restaurant called Aria (no mention of this at the time of booking Cotenna) and if the menu was the same as they assured us, then Cotenna (or Aria) didn't live up to expectations. Food was both rich and bland at the same time, and we had to wait for drinks service throughout dinner.

Reserved a table, NOT. a counter. Arrived 30 mins early (6:30) as we had sync with brother and he was available early. Host said we would have to sit at the counter though I had reserved a table. The host was intransigent. We must sit at the counter. As an elder gentleman, my back does not appreciate a stool so I pressed for a table, pointing out that that is what I had booked. Had a counter only beeb available I would have looked elsewhee. Host argued repeatedly that that we should take the counter, then abruptly exiled us to the empty annex across the street that “suddenly” had room. The food was good but thumbs done all around foe the treatment. I will never return.

This is a Village gem! If it's somehow relatively undiscovered, how fortunate for the discoverers!

The ambiance is cozy and warm.
Unfortunately I was really unhappy about this restaurant. The space is very limited and people are seated very closed to eachothers. We were seated at the bar right next to the kitchen, doors were closed and there was no air at all. With the smoke coming from the kitchen was so warm that we could hardly breathe. Special dish of the day was risotto with lamb shank. The rice was sort of boiled and had nothing to do with a risotto, the meat was ok but nothing special. The appetizers (mango salad with cheese and bruschetta with mashrooms were tasty and much better than the rest). Maybe it was not the right evening, it can happen. We’ll give it another chance, maybe in summer, as the staff was nice and friendly and perhaps with open door the restaurant offers a better experience

The food is a little boring for its price point. There was something about the dishes where none of them tasted bright. Nothing was delicious and nothing made me want to go back there. We got the mussels and they didn't seem like they were cooked from fresh mussels. It was like they bought pre-cooked mussels, warmed them up.

Had an excellent experience here. The room is tiny, but the cozy atmosphere and warm, accommodating staff made us feel right at home. We opted for seats at the bar rather than squeezing into a table seat. The bartender/waitress was knowledgeable and friendly. The bolognese pasta was one of the best ever. Prices are more than reasonable by NY standards. Highly recommend.

Great value and great vibe. It's small and very tight space but it's great food and service at a reasonable price. Down to earth still feels a bit upscale for the price.

Food was incredible. Made a reservation and was sat at the bar anyway. Server was snarky. Not an interesting environment. Pasta was gas tho

Food was good. Wine was super value for money. Service was a disgrace esp when it comes to "which table gets allocated to whom within an empty restaurant". Also be aware of being seated close to the door. It is cold

Decent spot. Food is nothing is write home about. Service is alright. Would go back but wouldn’t say it’s a must hit spot.
