The Crane Club is the kind of place that turns a great night out into something truly memorable. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels celebratory, refined yet welcoming, with every member of the staff genuinely invested in making the evening special.

The steak is nothing short of spectacular, perfectly seared with a caramelized crust and tender, juicy center that melts with each bite. You can taste the care in its preparation and the quality of the cut.

The sweet potatoes are an unexpected standout — silky, subtly sweet, and beautifully balanced with a touch of seasoning that complements the richness of the steak. It’s a perfect example of how The Crane Club takes comfort classics and transforms them into something elevated and memorable.

One of the most special touches of the evening was the champagne toast for a birthday celebration. It wasn’t just a gesture, it felt personal, joyful, and perfectly orchestrated.

The service deserves its own standing ovation. The sommelier and wine director curated pairings that elevated every course, thoughtful, precise, and clearly driven by passion and deep knowledge. The entire team, from the servers to the hosts, radiated warmth and professionalism without ever feeling overbearing. It’s rare to see hospitality executed with this much grace and attention to detail.

At The Crane Club, everything from the food to the service to the ambiance works in harmony. It’s a place that makes you feel celebrated, whether you’re there for a milestone or simply an unforgettable meal.

Special thank you to Abe for checking in on us throughout the night and ensuring it was a social experience. Cannot recommend highly enough!

Would rate zero if I could, since we never got to experience our meal.

We had a 9:15pm reservation, and checked in promptly at 9:15. Upon arriving, I waited at the hostess desk for at least a minute while the hostess typed away on her phone. I will assume for her sake that this was a work phone and not her personal phone, but either way, the fact that she didn’t even look up to acknowledge me was off-putting, to say the least.

We were told that our table would be ready in a few minutes; that the people currently at the table were paying. Ultimately we would learn this was false, and that this same falsehood would be told to each person who checked in after us.

We were told we could wait at the bar - except we couldn’t. It was impossible because the bar was completely overrun…presumably with other people waiting to be seated for their reservations. There was nowhere to stand, much less an opening to order a drink.

So we stood in the lobby and waited. And waited. And waited. Nobody checked in on us, not even once, to give us an update on our reservation, save for one woman who asked me to verify my name.

Finally at approximately 9:50 - 35 minutes after the time of our reservation, I approached the hostess to see what was happening. Surely something had gone wrong - it could not be the case that it was taking over a half an hour for the people at our table to pay? After a mix up requiring me to clarify my name with the host - which I had “verified” no more than 10 minutes earlier - I was told that our table was ready and that we would be escorted to it shortly.

Finally, we were led into the dining room…and then promptly abandoned there, after being told that the hostess had made an error and another table would have to be procured. There we stood at the precipice of the dining room, servers rushing past, watching others eat…no hostess in sight. While we waited (again), we overheard a man walking by say that he couldn’t wait any longer for the restroom, as the line was too long - an ominous sign for sure.

When the clock finally struck 10pm - a full 45 minutes beyond the time of our reservation - we decided we’d had enough of being gaslit into thinking we’d be eating anytime soon. So we fought our way through the crowd towards the exit. On our way out we let the hostess know we were tired of waiting and that we were leaving. In a last ditch effort, we were told that we could be seated shortly at a table NOT in the main dining room, but rather by the still-overcrowded bar. We declined, as we’d reserved a table in the dining room, which we felt was part of the experience of dining there - especially after having been led into the dining room minutes earlier in a moment of false hope.

Overall, this was an utter disaster. Waiting a few minutes (5, 10…maybe 15) on a busy night is understandable. But we were misled from the moment we arrived about the availability of tables. Had we known that we’d be waiting for more than 45 minutes beyond our reservation time when we first arrived, we’d simply have made other plans. If a restaurant cannot honor reservations, it should have the courtesy to tell guests as much.

We had been very much looking forward to celebrating our anniversary with a nice dinner and, sadly, those plans were ruined. It’s one thing to be disappointed by an experience, but to be actively misled throughout added an extra sour note. Overall, the Crane Club turned what should have been a fun celebration into time wasted and a lot of aggravation.

Please check your card statements. I always take a picture of the bill to always compare what I signed to what I was charged. I saw a higher amount being charged to my card. Charging a higher amount to my card is fraud !! Appalled that this would happen at this establishment….

My friends and I were invited to The Crane Club in New York City, but what should have been a fun evening turned into one of the most disappointing dining experiences I’ve ever had.

Upon arrival, we informed the host that we had been invited to join the club downstairs. We provided our names, and the host said he would check and get back to us. We sat at a table and waited — for 45 minutes — with no acknowledgment, no service, and not even a glass of water offered. No one came by to check in or provide an update.

After nearly an hour of waiting, we decided to go to the bar to at least order a drink. Unfortunately, the head bartender, Chris, was extremely dismissive and rude. When we asked for a drink, he curtly told us they had already done last call — despite the fact that no one had informed us of that, and we had been sitting there the entire time without service. He didn’t apologize, didn’t offer an alternative — he simply ignored us.

At this point, we were frustrated and honestly embarrassed. We are three women of color, and the lack of acknowledgment or basic courtesy made the entire experience feel especially uncomfortable.

I finally spoke to a manager, Catherine, who apologized and offered her business card, saying to “reach out next time” and she’d “take care of us.” But there won’t be a next time. That kind of afterthought doesn’t undo an hour of being ignored and dismissed.

Overall, this was one of the most disrespectful, unwelcoming experiences I’ve ever had at any restaurant or club — and I dine out often. The Crane Club should take a serious look at its hospitality standards and staff training. If this is how they treat invited guests, I can’t imagine how they treat regular patrons.

I would strongly caution anyone considering visiting until they make significant changes.

Private club downstairs refused to let people exit other than into dark stairwell and alley and gave no reason why. Food was complete disappointment.

Outstanding taste, horrible service. While I was less than halfway through my expensive steak, they took my plate away along with all the sides away. I thought they were going to box it for me, but they just threw it all away. Also minimal adjustments for those with dairy allergies and a general lack of awareness for dietary preferences.

After a couple of hours on a yacht, watching the sunset and enjoying New York’s warm evening, we were hungry and went for a safe choice: a steakhouse. There were six of us, and Crane Club seemed perfect. We loved the idea — a woman at the helm as executive chef, her story, her legendary pasta, the famous sweet potato, and even a dessert with farro.

When we walked in, we were stunned. Vaulted ceilings, archways, enormous Art Deco chandeliers, heavy burgundy curtains, and waiters dressed to match. Round tables scattered across the hall looked like ballerinas in their wide skirts, each glowing with candlelight. The room was buzzing — loud, crowded, and undeniably beautiful.

At the start, we were even asked, “What are you celebrating tonight?” We said: “Women’s power.” Fitting, since the chef and her sous-chefs in the kitchen are also women. But by the end of the night, it was more of a fiasco than a celebration.

Our waiter took ages to appear. When he finally did, he introduced himself, but gave menus to another table. He disappeared, came back much later, asked about allergies (we had none), and eventually we got our menus.

The bread turned out to be the highlight of the evening — which isn’t great news for a restaurant of this level. But it really was good: several varieties, butter, some sauce, a scone with chives, even a bread basket made out of bread.

The tuna tartare was fine, nicely balanced with shiso. The famous mushrooms with black garlic arrived lukewarm and unimpressive. Potatoes were essentially a well-made latke. The signature sweet potato looked nothing like the Michelin guide photo — more like a sugary mashed dessert than anything savory.

Then came the pasta. The lasagna was decent, but without meat and with lots of citrus, it didn’t wow. The zucchini ravioli wasn’t memorable but not bad. The seafood pasta was left almost untouched: an overwhelming citrus flavor drowned out everything, and the seafood was nearly absent (a tiny shrimp at the bottom — was that supposed to count?). No one asked why the dish was left behind, and no one offered to pack it to go.

This was supposed to be a steakhouse moment: a $115 ribeye to save the night. But no — we left more than half on the plate. Again, no questions asked. Just taken away. Quite possibly the worst ribeye I’ve ever had.

Three of us left early. We hugged goodbye at the table — noticeable enough in a group of six. But the staff didn’t seem to notice: three teapots and one dessert were still served “for six.” Awkward, almost comical.

Tea should have been comforting. Instead, my teabag ripped open inside the pot. A young staffer, not in uniform, kindly suggested to replace it — the first and only gesture of care we experienced that night.

And the dessert with farro? It turned out to be more like morning porridge with peaches and a triple dose of cinnamon. Not for me.

The restroom sealed it: dirty, with the thinnest toilet paper — always a sign of cutting corners.

So, would I return? No. Recommend it? No. But was it beautiful? Absolutely. Painfully beautiful.

Food and service was good, not great. If you want this type of experience I would suggest The Grill. It has a similar vibe but better food and service.

I wanted to love this place but the food execution was subpar. Food was extremely salty. If it wasn't for that, i would have rated this place much higher. Even the desert was salty and lava cake came out cold. All this is easily fixable by having a chef taste test food before it leaves the kitchen. The highlight was the great bread and drinks.
