Food is sooo teasty
Crown Shy, located near Wall Street in downtown Manhattan, is a remarkable Michelin-starred restaurant that seamlessly blends modern culinary innovation with subtle European and Asian influences. Each dish we sampled was a testament to the chef’s skill and dedication—crafted with genuine passion and executed to perfection.
The experience began with warm, inviting bread that set the tone for the evening. The oysters were a standout, fresh and brimming with oceanic flavor. For our mains, the Branzino and pork katsu were absolute highlights. Both were beautifully cooked, with rich, nuanced flavors in the proteins themselves and the accompanying sauces that elevated each bite.
To finish, a lovely ice cream dessert brought a perfect close to an extraordinary meal. Crown Shy offers a more accessible and relaxed take on Michelin-starred dining in New York City—truly an experience I highly recommend.
Absolutely loved this restaurant! The Ricotta Gnocchi, Morels, Vin Jaune was excellent! As was every dessert!!!
A YouTuber dined here as an option for a more affordable Michelin starred restaurant in expensive New York. It was a miss for food.
Menu mainly for sharing.
The fritters were like small churros filled with Gruyere cheese. Not tasty and not exceptional
Had to send the gnocchi back because it was too salty
The asparagus was skinny. For a dish named after the asparagus, you’ll expect something succulent or even using white asparagus which should be in season
The best dish was the short ribs but at about 105 dollars, I’m sure I can get some other meats elsewhere
Having had many Michelin meals throughout the work, I was quite disappointed
Great food, get a reservation
Iconic. Feels like the movie The Menu but excluding all the bad parts. Staff noticed my partner was obsessed with their bread and surprised us afterwards with bread to take home! I softly mentioned I was interested in the sorbet and our waiter walked by confirming that I wanted the sorbet. How he heard that I have no idea, but this was some of the most attentive service I have ever received! Also their salad-esk appetizers are phenomenal. Treat yourself to this culinary delight.

Loved going to the bar area, you get to enjoy the food without the tasting menu and try many cocktails. Bartenders there are great at helping you out with cocktails. Great atmosphere and music.

A great spot for dinner, the atmosphere was nice - large, modern and vibey with 90’s hip hop playing in the background. Service was super friendly and attentive from start to finish and the food was very good. I started with their Gruyère fritters, kind of a savory cheesy churro, which while not necessarily amazing were a fun start. The katsu pork chop though was a highlight - extremely juicy and tender with the sauce bringing great umami flavors. It’s also fairly substantial. Did the place rise to the level of other Michelin star restaurants I’ve been to? Probably not, but the prices aren’t as high as some others I’ve been to either so all in all I left satisfied.

Crown Shy started strong with their welcome bread, filled with pistachios, a unique touch that I appreciated, though the pistachio flavor was surprisingly subtle. We began with a small plate that was enjoyable and well-prepared. However, the bread served alongside the hummus was a bit underwhelming – just two pieces to share – and it took about ten minutes to request an additional portion, which disrupted the flow of the meal.
The donkatsu arrived next, impressive in size and flavor but overly greasy; I think trimming some of the fat could have elevated it further. The herb-roasted chicken, on the other hand, was beautifully cooked, and the accompanying hot sauce added a great kick, rounding out the dish perfectly.
Dessert was satisfying, though the cinnamon on the ice cream was overpowering. I suspect they used cassia cinnamon – a premium choice – but it dominated the flavor profile, leaving the dish slightly unbalanced. Lastly, the ambiance could use a bit of tweaking; the music was quite loud, and the playlist felt a bit out of sync with the vibe of the restaurant, with early 2000s rap that seemed more suited to a different setting.

Was hoping to be blown away, however, was not.
The courses leading up to the main was very good. The pork main had inedible fatty parts. The Chicken was just ok.
The service (Dante R.) was outstanding.

Not what a Michelin star restaurant should be.
The food was delicious, every dish that came out was well thought out and beautifully served.
The side of bread with a pistachio pesto was absolutely devine.
The atmosphere felt more like a dark club.
The service is what really made the experience unenjoyable. The waiter wasn’t rude, just unwelcoming, unhelpful, and as the employee of a reputable restaurant, didn’t help it live up to its reputation.
I would try elsewhere as there are many other amazing restaurants in NYC.
