The beef noodle soup was better than Din Tai Fung Taipei. But the Xiao long bao wasn't as juicy.

The location is beautiful and really large. Even with reservations you have to wait in a line which was weird but went by fast. The chocolate xiao long bao was the best dish by far. But everything was good

I had high hopes for Din Tai Fung given all the hype and slick marketing, but honestly, the experience was underwhelming. The food was mid at best—bland, uninspired, and far from what I’d expect from truly flavorful Taiwanese cuisine. It felt like they watered everything down to cater to Western/white palates, which is a shame because Taiwanese food deserves so much better than this.
The check-in process was a nightmare. The hostess—or host, I’m not sure—seemed disorganized. Their name was something like Kiki or Kewe, and they didn’t seem to care about the people who had been waiting in line. They let others cut ahead while the rest of us stood there wondering what was going on. It gave off chaotic vibes and left a bad impression before we even sat down.
The one thing they’ve nailed is their marketing game, but that’s not enough to compensate for mid-tier food. If you want real Taiwanese flavors, skip this place and find a local spot that hasn’t sacrificed authenticity. It’s a 6/10 for me, and honestly, that’s generous.

Din Tai Fung has been a long-time favorite of mine, and I’ve visited their locations across Asia more times than I can count. So, I was really looking forward to the opening of this NYC location. It took some time, but as soon as I walked in, I could see why. This isn’t like the more casual branches I’m used to – they’ve gone all out, creating a stunning space that’s perfect for a special night out. Though it’s a large venue, it feels intimate, and the table arrangement makes conversations easy. Service was excellent; our waiter was excited to introduce us to the restaurant and stayed attentive throughout the meal.
Now, the food! We tried two varieties of their signature xiaolongbao – the traditional pork and the pork and crab. Both were superb and just as good as what you’d find in Asia. The paper-thin wrappers are some of the best I’ve had outside of the Pacific, with great flavor and delicious soup inside. The pork chop fried rice was also outstanding – tender, juicy pork served over perfectly cooked fried rice. We also enjoyed the seaweed and tofu salad, which was a great starter. I did miss the wild vegetable tofu and sesame oil salad I’ve had in Asia, but I imagine it might be due to ingredient availability here. Prices are a bit higher than their Asian branches, but for me, the atmosphere and quality were worth it. I’ll definitely be back.
Note: Unlike other locations, this one is reservation-only.

Great food, similar to original locations in Taiwan. Really nice setup- lots of people dressed up. Could be a little faster with service. Don't forget to leave room for chocolate xiao long bao for dessert!

Over rated from their advertising. The soup dumpling was dry and small. Worse we ever had. We don't mind paying top dollar, but the food was not even decent and small potion as well. For 2 people, it was over $250. 00 and we left hungry. Not recommended at all.

Reservation is REQUIRED! Did my reservation 2 weeks in advance. But worth it. Tried this in HK and Manila. I love their Xiao Long Bao. Their best seller. I ordered their noodles with diced beef and Szechuan peppers

Went right at opening with a restaurant. The place is massive and beautifully decorated. Our server, Khoi, was great. Went through the menu and sauces. Food was fast (they have a lot of workers everywhere) and delicious. Service was quick. Baby back ribs and wontons are the best. But the show stopper was the mochi chocolate with sweet cream for dessert.

You MUST have a reservation. You enter a glass building and head downstairs into a gorgeous trendy waiting and dining area. Initial drink service took a little longer and we had our order on the little sheet ready to go but it took a while before it was picked up. But once it was in, food came out quickly and fresh. The soup dumplings are INCREDIBLE. It was our first time but definitely plan to try it again.

Great atmosphere and wait staff were very polite and attentive. Food was pretty good but was expecting more based on the hype and price. Chicken wontons were the favorite
