It is a good alternative if you are looking for an evening of jazz... although it is not a great deal for what you pay. There are much better options in the Village and the quality of the show is on another level. I liked it: yes. Would I go back? No. Too expensive for four songs and a drink.
I have gone to dizzys for over 15 years for various performances. I attended three sets in the last month and each one was shortened. They recently cut the sets to be 1 hour and 15 mins which I do not think is correct. They used to be just under two hours. It feels like one is a bit short-changed with the shorter sets; other jazz clubs have longer sets which gives one a chance to really settle in and enjoy a beautiful night of music.
Let me tell you, the cats that play at Dizzys are the real deal! The drummer lays back, the bass player opens their ears, and the band is just swinging! I’ve seen Ulysses Owens, Matthew Whitaker, Azar Lawrence, and many other incredible players at Dizzys and I can’t recommend it strongly enough!!
