I had a very disappointing experience at this café despite its beautiful and atmospheric interior.
While I was using the restroom due to feeling unwell, someone whether a staff member or another customer—repeatedly knocked on the door and urged me to hurry, even after I clearly responded “Sorry, occupied” each time. What shocked me most was that, despite the door being securely locked, they forced the door open while I was still inside.
This was extremely disrespectful and invasive. It’s unacceptable behavior in any setting, especially in a place that presents itself as welcoming and cozy. To make matters worse, no staff member approached me afterward to acknowledge or resolve this incident, which made the experience even more upsetting.
Atmosphere alone cannot make up for such a breach of basic courtesy and privacy. I hope management takes this seriously and ensures that customers’ dignity is respected in the future.

*Night Experience Review*
TLDR; doesn’t serve coffee at night, yet doesn’t make for a good bar either — identity problems.
No coffee shop drinks allowed at night (not even espresso shot) even though they have the machines going and sell an $18 Espresso Martini and a $16 espresso mocktail. They’re rude about it and indignant when you ask, and I watched several ppl walk in, ask, and walk out frustrated. Furthermore, they have a no laptops or tablets policy.
Now, I’d totally get it if it actually had a good bar scene at night! It’s got a DJ (she seemed great! no offense to her!) but they just give her a small spot for a laptop at the coffee counter. And it’s still a coffee shop layout with few tables, nowhere to dance, and no one even standing.
It’s really the worst of both worlds. Either become an awesome bar at night (and then why not stop selling espresso at least, even if you kill the slower drinks?) or keep it a novel concept of a hybrid. But instead it’s neither a good bar (again, sorry great DJ!) nor a good coffee shop.

They’ll make fun of your drink as they’re making it, and mock it right in front of your face

There were no alligators in sight, unfortunately, but the service was excellent. Emma and Lena (I think) were very welcoming. I was the first drip coffee order of the day (this was around 4pm), but they were still accommodating. Convenient location, a crisp air temperature, a carefully curated bookshop. Bread upon request. Also milk and/or cream upon request. And bathroom upon request. Good service, whether requested or not. Would recommend

Overpriced and corporate-feeling. Ironically, you cannot use laptops here. Wasnt aware of this until paying for a drink and sitting down 🙄🙄🙄🙄 Charging $8 for a lemonade and I can’t do what I please, ie, work peacefully on my laptop? Places like this are why I can no longer stand the cafe scene in Manhattan.

Family owned— LOVE THIS PLACE! Do not fall for Blank Street or one of the soulless VC backed chains. This is owned by a real artist family and they’re cool, kind, hardworking… plus the coffee, drinks, eats and vibes are 💯

The coffee was very good, but at $8 for a small hot Americano, definitely overpriced - even by Manhattan standards. The café was packed, with nowhere to sit and enjoy the drink. The atmosphere was also a letdown, thanks to a crowd of influencers constantly posing for photos against the glass wall.
Thank you for the correction - $6 makes all the difference. I now realize I wasn’t overpaying for a coffee. Truly, a bargain.

This place used to be good but definitely not anymore. Worst matcha i have had in new york. They dont put any thought into it. It seems like owners know their drinks suck but it looks cute enough that customers keep coming. But not a good strategy - it will lead to a slow decline ultimately unless they improve quality.

Got my drink quickly. I’m now enjoying a photo book and waiting for the shops to open. Lovely experience, thank you.
