This is perfect for a regular day when you want to eat out or a romantic date. Gluten free pizza dough. The mocktails are delicious and they have lots of non alcoholic beverages options šŸ™šŸ½

Best vegan restaurant! The food is always fresh, and the vibe has a cool rustic feel. My all-time favorites are the cacio e pepe and the mushroom & truffle pizza. Absolutely delicious every time

Best vegan pizza in NYC. I could have sworn I reviewed Double Zero before and now I’m wondering if the review disappeared because it was for their old location. They moved (on the same block I think?) into a place that looks a little tighter inside but had an outdoor seating.

Came with a party of 3 and sat inside for a quiet Saturday night dinner—interior seating was maybe half full and exterior seating was packed.

Warning interior didn’t have AC running.

Got two pizzas and jackfruit tacos

Jackfruit tacos: Good but lacked a sauce or spice that left it getting drowned out by the much more flavorful pizzas

Truffle cashew cream pizza: Excellent. Third time getting it and every time it’s been a hit. Flavorful spread of mushrooms on cashew cheese

Spicy Pepperoni Pizza: Pepperonis themselves quite good on a tomato, basil, cheese base. Note the pepperonis have coconut in them in case you’re allergic.

Also got two cocktails and a mocktail, but nothing to report there. My Moscow mule was largely ice.

Unfortunately, the owner is apparently a terrible person according to the April 22, 2024 NYTimes article, but the food is good especially for vegans.

Had always wanted to go to the Double Zero in Venice, CA, so I was excited to finally try the location in NYC!

First off, I found the location to be a bit confusing. There’s two restaurants operating in the same space, so I nearly walked out thinking I was in the wrong place.

Now onto the food and experience! I tried the mushroom pizza and cacio e pepe (see pic of pasta in my review). The pasta was really good. Creamy, lots of flavor, and great texture. It’s not the same as cacio e pepe in Rome, but nonetheless enjoyable.

The pizza tasted good but violated the #1 holy rule of pizza making: limp crust. I couldn’t pick up the slice without it sagging. Whomp, whomp. You also have to be a big fan of truffle oil, it’s used pretty liberally on this dish.

The service was great, though. Nice servers, very eager to refill a glass or clear the table, and the food came out fairly quick. Done and dusted. Love it.

Note to kitchen: try to add some umami or fermented notes in the cacio e pepe to mimic cheese. A lot of places have a killer vegan cream sauce, but none have captured the special-ness (yes, I know that’s not a real word!) of cacio e pepe. There’s a lot of decent vegan cheeses out…it may yield a better result! If you crack the code I’ll gladly come back to try it!! 😊

The pepperoni pizza was delicious even the next day after being reheated. However it is a bit pricey. Almost $30 for 6 schmedium slices. I savored it and ate 3 slices for dinner and the rest for lunch the next day. However I could have devoured all 6 slices in one sitting. If you're willing to splurge check them out.

I’ve been going here for years and thoroughly enjoy the food, but after what just occurred, I will no longer be supporting this establishment.

I walked into the restaurant, I was greeted rudely by the waiter. I sat down and upon being given a menu, I told the waiter I already knew what I wanted. He said ā€œgive me a few seconds.ā€ He proceeds to serve and deal
with other customers in front of my face. He grabs plates for some, puts up chairs for others, gives others menus, bring orders for the rest. I wait minutes, then another a few minute, so on and so forth.

At one point, he is just standing behind the bar staring out. After waiting long enough, I walk out and tell him ā€œnevermindā€ he responds sarcastically ā€œOk darlingā€.

Worst and rudest service I’ve ever received. Do not recommend.

The best pizza they had is now off the menu ( the potato one). The marinara is spicy even when you ask for it not to be spicy, which is really unfortunate. because I’m trying to feed my four and six-year-old. If I wanted spicy, I would get their arabiata It’s also very floppy. The lettuce of the Caesar salad is usually slightly browned. Nothing feels fresh. This place used to be great, but I don’t know what happened to it.
