Great food and a great vibe! I got Dr. Clark’s Choice and it was worth EVERY PENNY! I couldn’t recommend this place more! The Sashimi was incredible as well as the Scallop Risotto and Basque Cheesecake. I really wish I had pictures to post, but I ate my food before I could take any. The portions were also EXTREMELY generous for the price.

Vibe was a little weird when I entered but I chalked it up to a slow Monday evening — it was just me and one other table until my two friends arrived. Unfortunately, the service did little to improve the impression; our server seemed openly put out by having to work.

The food itself we thought was good until we all started feeling unwell at the end of the meal. We ordered the risotto, lamb noodles, French fries, fried chicken, and cabbage, and something definitely was not prepared correctly as all three of us had stomach issues by the end of the night.

To top it off, the original check provided to us was $111, but after our cards were run, the amount mysteriously jumped to $183. The discrepancy caused confusion as we were calculating our tip, and only then did we realize they had added another table’s drinks to our closed tab after running our cards. Incredibly suspicious. Would not recommend this place at all.

Dr. Clark is a cozy and intimate restaurant with dark mood lighting and a nice full bar. Cocktails and Japanese Whisky offered here as well as light spirits. The menu is a mix of sashimi, variety of noodles, and light bites, while featuring lamb as a popular main. Two versions: cooked at your table with a portable grill or order chops by the piece, where it's cooked in the kitchen. The favorite was the stir fry udon noodles and the chan chan (baked salmon) for my group. Sashimi was really good, recommend the scallops, yellowtail and salmon.

Loved our server. The uni fries were the best. I also loved the salmon chin chin. I loved the veg with anchovy dipping sauce. We were there super early on a Tues. it was pretty hot & humid which took away from the atmosphere and tasty food.

Japanese food, thier house special is cooked at your table by a knowledgeable member of staff who will tell you about Dr. Clark. Gentle, candle-lit atmosphere, a walk in was possible on a Monday evening in February

Simply not worth the time or money. There are so many other spots in the area cheaper and tastier. Food overall was mediocre, with the seafood seemingly not very fresh.

This is a really specific restaurant with a specific experience. The menu is mostly lamb based, so if you don’t eat lamb it is scant. The night we went there were four of us and we all did the tasting menu. The servers are not staffed enough and are made to cook the meat table side but in a rushed way, so it’s unclear why they are made to do this. Our server was attentive but totally swamped between taking orders and having to cook the food. Having a hot plate on the table and lamb steam in your face was also not desirable. The food was fine, the server was doing her best, but it was all a weird experience and we definitely will not be going back. The food itself was okay but nothing special to warrant going back. Best thing was the scallop risotto.

There are many amazing places to eat in New York - this is not one of them. Don’t go here and if you do don’t get the tasting menu - really not great. The miso soup and sashimi were pretty good but then it went off the rails. Lamb tasted really off, dessert was inedible. Meal left my friend running for the bathroom. Waitress tried but they were super understaffed. Worst meal/service I’ve had in New York.

Im writing this from the table at this place. Honestly I don’t know who to blame cuz I feel bad for the waitress, she’s sweating. But it’s been two hours, our food hasn’t arrived, and she’s struggling. I’m scared to ask for another drink. Update: now that it’s over, my friends and I agreed, this had to have been our worst food experience in a long time. It felt fitting that our friend who suggested this horror, ended his meal in the bathroom with stomach issues. I never write reviews, but in this case I just had to warn others.

Went on a Wednesday at 8pm and there was hardly anyone there. Ambience was cozy and not too bright or loud — something I have come to appreciate when dining out in the city. While we were here on a summer night, I could easily see this being a go-to winter spot. Food was delicious and came out very quickly. We got the spicy lamb yakisoba and the addictive cabbage — enough food for a light meal for two!

The atmosphere is so good
The spirit of a Japanese owner from Hokkaido
It's a restaurant full of food!
I was skeptical at first because there was lamb in a Japanese restaurant, but it is said to be eaten a lot in the Hokkaido region.
The homemade salmon and sea bream were much softer than beef jerky, and even my 7-year-old enjoyed eating them!
It is said that the wasabi that comes with the sashimi is not commercial wasabi, but “root wasabi”!!
We ordered together Yudai Cocktail (name of the owner). It was a very special taste where you could taste all the salty, sweet, and sour flavors!
Yakisoba grilled salmon was also very delicious.
And lastly, the cheesecake and raw chocolate served with sweet red beans were amazing!!
Did you know that Royce Chocolate, famous in Japan, is Hokkaido chocolate!!
Although I stayed less than 2 hours, I felt like I was on a culinary trip to Hokkaido!! If you want to experience Hokkaido from New York, you should definitely visit here.
