The food was delicious and the service was not bad. It's a cute neighborhood cafe where you can have a nice brunch or simply go in for pastries, a drink, and get work done.

Their biscuits and gravy was good but not stellar, however, their other stuff is delish.

Cozy-cute bakery cafe’. Really delicious food and baked goods. Only one item that was gluten free. No sourdough bread options either. They could do almond flour for added options but sadly they don’t currently offer. Otherwise excellent place and if you go down 187th street after there is a marvelous lookout of the George Washington bridge for quick pics.

Kid-friendliness: Atmosphere isn’t silent so kids can be noisy.

Wheelchair accessibility: Easy in and accessible bathroom too

Dutch Baby: A Mixed Bag of Charm and Frustration

Dutch Baby is an adorable café in Washington Heights that brings much-needed charm to the neighborhood. Having lived here for 11 years, I was thrilled when it opened.

The Good:
• Lovely interior design
• Friendly staff
• Great drinks
• Outstanding cheddar scones and biscuits

This place has been a delightful addition to the neighborhood, adding warmth and character. I’ve been a loyal customer, recommending it to friends and family, attending comedy shows, and buying countless pastries. I visit at least once a week for breakfast sandwiches, which are quite good.

The Bad:
Unfortunately, my overall experience has been marred by poor management and a lack of responsiveness to customer feedback. Despite the café’s evident success, the issues I’ve encountered repeatedly go unresolved. Below are some notable incidents:

1) The Sandwich Saga:
One visit, my girlfriend and I ordered a Green Goddess sandwich and a frittata. Her food arrived in 25 minutes, but my cold sandwich took 45 minutes after that. When we asked, the waitress blamed short staffing and assured us they were hiring more cooks. That was eight months ago, and nothing has improved.

2) Lost Orders & Customer Drama:
During another visit with my girlfriend and her family, we placed our orders at the counter. Everyone received their food except me. After waiting 30 minutes, we were told they “didn’t hear” my frittata order. Another 25 minutes later, it finally arrived.

While waiting, we witnessed a customer angrily complain about the quality of his eggs. He made a scene, yelling at staff, and the police were eventually called. While his behavior was inappropriate, I understand his frustration—wait times and food inconsistencies can push customers to their limits.

3) The Thanksgiving Pie Disaster:
This was the final straw. Looking for a pie to bring to my aunt’s Thanksgiving dinner, I suggested Dutch Baby because I’ve always enjoyed their baked goods. However, there was no clear communication outside the store about pie availability. When my girlfriend’s family arrived, they were told pies were sold first-come, first-serve daily.

We managed to get a pecan pumpkin pie the day before Thanksgiving for $35. But after dinner, we cut into it, and it was awful—slimy, undercooked, and resembling rotten soup. It was incredibly embarrassing. I even took pictures and video because the quality was so shocking. Returning the pie was out of the question due to the 59-mile trip, but I felt completely ripped off.

Final Thoughts:
This café has so much potential but consistently fails to deliver. The charm of the space and the quality of some menu items are overshadowed by poor management, long wait times, and inconsistent food quality. Despite being a loyal customer, I can no longer recommend this place.

This is a long review, but not nearly as long as the countless hours I’ve spent waiting for my food—or the time I’ve wasted regretting my decision to return, hoping things might improve. If you’re planning to visit, clear your schedule and prepare yourself—you never know what kind of experience you’ll have when you step through those doors.

We love Dutch Baby's food and atmosphere and the entire concept, generally! We are so excited to have a successful, independent, local shop in our neighborhood. The drinks are good, the food is good (often great), the baked goods are amazing, and the servers are kind and clearly from the neighborhood. The only hang up is the service. It is consistently bad. The staff behind the counter forget your order immediately after you've ordered, they mill around after you've ordered and keep you waiting to pay at the counter, and they consistently refuse to top-off your coffee with milk because the canteens by the door are self-service but they're always empty. Whenever I bring the empty canteens up with them, I then have to wait for them to fill the canteens before I can get my milk. I've worked in service jobs and I'd imagine that in this situation it should be best practice to fulfill the customer's request first before grabbing a carton of milk and then walking around the shop to fill up the canteens. The poor service is clearly systemic; unfortunately, it is also bad at their sister location (Fountain Bookshop); today we visited the Fountain and two (TWO!) staff members were talking to an individual who was trying to convince the bookshop to stock a self-published book by their friend. A line built up by the door. One of the staff members began to help us with getting ice cream but then for some reason she left, so we had to wait for their book purchaser to step-in, then while he was scooping our ice cream, he dropped a quarter of the scoop on the floor. He then shrugged this off and suggested that the remainder of the scoop "was okay, right?" and handed me the cup. I've had this happen at Sugar Hill Creamery at 148th before, and they topped me off. That's the type of service I would expect. We love this place, so we only provide these critiques in hopes that they lead to improvement.

Not a single vegan option. Very disappointing that there was nothing for my friend to eat. It is not that difficult to add something vegan to the menu. What about your customers who are concerned about their cholesterol / health , and want to try to find something healthier ? It shows that as a business you do not care about public health.

Great place to enjoy a meal or to simply have a good cup of coffee that can go along with a delicious assortment of baked goods. I am partial to their individual olive oil Bundt cakes and their breakfast goodies.
