Worst experience in terms of care in NYC. My family and I sat for a maximum of 20 minutes at the establishment for a coffee. When requesting the invoice, we found that there was a minimum consumption of $5 and a drop-down charge including the taxes. I asked the waitress about the amounts charged even to check the possibility of ordering something more to complete the minimum consumption, but she promptly triggered a gentleman who I imagine to be the owner of the coffee. He was extremely rude, said that he did not understand English well and came to push my husband's finger to charge the amount of slices he stipulated on the credit card machine. Anyway, what was supposed to be a rest break has become an extremely embarrassing situation...
I popped in for a coffee and to escape the weather and found the service to be terrible. I had to go to the counter to get my order in even though the place was empty and there were two servers. When the coffee arrived it was undrinkable. Then it got weird. We had two teens with us who bought a deck of cards and were told that playing cards (in our case rummy) was not permitted.

Omelets were phenomenal, service was terrific, prices fair, and the owner/manager a real character. If you're in search of a quaint and relaxing spot to grab brunch, look no further.

Waffle ($16), Two Eggs Sandwich ($11), and Risotto Al Funghi ($20) along with some coffee and lemonade is what we got. Were seated right away and the place was busy at 2 pm on a Sunday.
Slight UWS charm to it, quick service (food arrives within 20-mins), and extremely dated interiors that didn't bother us at all. Reasonably priced though, which earns it a star! Will return!
Vegetarian options: A few decent options for Veggos!
Kid-friendliness: Pretty kid friendly đ

I visit Edgars Cafe a lot. The coffee is wonderful and their cake selection is spot on. The staff are attentive and charming. I enjoy every time I go. It has european charm mixed with the Edgar Allan Poe theme that goes back to their roots. The was a Stiller's favorite.
I normally donât leave negative reviews, but this experience was too absurd not to share. At first glance, this cafe seemed like a charming spot, so we decided to sit down and order. Unfortunately, it all went downhill from there. We waited 25 minutes for a simple chocolate milkshake and a soda. Yes, we were patient, but what truly shocked us was what happened next. I opened my laptop while waiting, and out of nowhere, a waitress ran to our table and yelled, âNO LAPTOP!â There were no signs or any indication that laptops werenât allowed. Fine, letâs say itâs their policy and they donât want people sitting for hours workingâbut the staff could have handled it so much better. How about a polite heads-up before we order? Maybe something like, âJust so you know, we have a no-device policy.â Instead, they waited until we were settled, only to rudely scold us like we broke some obvious rule. And that milkshake? We had to cancel it because, after 25 minutes, it still wasnât ready. Save yourself the trouble and skip this place. We went to Blank Street across the street right after, and their staff was so polite, it completely turned our day around. Businesses like this cafe donât deserve your support with such unprofessional and rude service.

Horrible experience. The service and food are the absolute worst. And very expensive for what is it.

The massive rude gesture of the owner of yelling at the servants in front of all costumers was not miss respectful with the girls themselves, but also with costumers. It made me to leave my table sure that I will never go back.

When I woke up today, I had a thought to look up and see if there were any Edgar Allen Poe themed coffee shops in the city. I was super excited when I found one! When I got there, I noticed an old man in the corner staring at me as I came in and asked to sit outside. At this point, I didnât realize he was the owner. The two waitresses were very nice, I might add, but I wonder how terrible of a work experience they must have if this jerk is their boss.
I first sat outside and I was taking some pictures of the place. I worked outside for about an hour and ordered an espresso and an appetizer. It was getting cold and I was planning on studying for a few hours, so I asked to move inside. There were more tables open than not, and I wasnât instructed to sit at a certain table, so I just picked one. At this time, I noticed the man was the owner because he said something to the waitress who then asked me to move. I did so no problem even thought I didnât really understand why since it was a small place with multiple open tables but Iâm not going to question someone doing a job that I donât do. I asked where the bathroom was, and the man was sitting in a chair blocking the hallway to it, and he was so rude about having to get up and move. (Idk, maybe donât put a chair there?) When I came back from the bathroom, I ordered another espresso. The whole time this guy was just creepily staring at me with disgust. I got up to ask for a napkin, and he motioned at me while saying something to a waitress and they both looked in my direction and started laughing and she was like âstop being mean.â At this point, I just yelled CHECK PLEASE.
While I enjoyed the theme, when you own an outdated coffee shop in NYC with subpar food and espresso, you should probably treat your guests with respect because guess what THEY HAVE OPTIONS IN THIS CITY!
