The ‘best’ café in the city, don’t need to come. The owner is on menopause and doesn’t care about the customers in the café. First time there, we were waiting for the service. We didn’t rush anyone. We were looking around at the café, the owner just kept yelling at us. Saying we can leave or wait for the service. Dude we were just observing your café shop lol. And the waitress got our order wrong, and we were too tired to correct the items (poor girl working for that man.) we just paid and left. Oh and the food? Meh.

What a great find. Was meeting up.with a friend for last-minute Sunday dinner and found this spot.Friendly welcome by the staff, great cozy atmosphere with Italian vibes..the food was perfect and vibes with Edgar Allan Poe memorabilia all over.My friend loved his salad and my chicken and pesto sandwich was great. The bread was nice and crisp.Definitely coming back for dessert. Looked great and had a variety. We went on a Sunday evening, and it was mellow and perfect to chill. They had a nice outdoor enclosed seating as well.

Never have I ever been treated like this at any bar or restaurant in NYC. As I am having some cider with my friend. The owner of the place kept walking by our table staring at us. I ignore it the first time. The second time it happened I asked him if everything was okay. He started lashing out hostility, yelling that he is the owner and that he doesn’t stare, he looks. Keeps yelling and yelling at us. Until he goes to the waitresses and yells, GET THEM THE CHECK, GET THEM OUT OF HERE. so we paid and left. I feel horrible for this man, for how unhappy he must be to be looking out for triggers to start fights in his own business. We were not being loud, we were in a corner with no one around us. This was completely out of nowhere and insane.

Refreshing salad selections with a hint of Poe.

The owner yelled at me because I had my phone out. Literally yelled at me. I wasn’t even inside I was sitting on the patio outside. I’m all for respecting the rules of an establishment, but he was harsh and confrontational for no reason.
I just visited this cafe, came in to leave a review and was a little shocked by the comments. I don’t know what rudeness people are talking about, but with my poor English (zero level) I had no problem ordering tea with lemon and enjoying it on the summer terrace on a cold, rainy New York evening. I didn't have any difficulties or problems. despite the fact that I just ordered tea from the waitress, a minute later the owner came out and clarified which one I needed (black, green, mint and etc). I think this says a lot. Thanks again from the guy in the orange jacket.

People of a certain vintage will remember the soup episode of Seinfeld. Come here if you want to experience that. While the food is good and somewhat reasonably priced, do not come here if the elderly owner/Grinch is around. While I escaped his wrath, a table next to me got an earful because he was offended at the way they ate their pizza. That made for an awkward brunch and I was hoping that I wouldn't be next for a perceived sleight ( I did notice him give us the occasional side eye especially when we had our phones out wile waiting for the food) I eat at an establishment to relax, not to be stressed out by a rude and unpredictable owner.

I was a little hesitant about dining at Edgar's because the reviews are all over the place. One thing that attracted me was a previous review that there are no laptops allowed. It told me the supposedly crusty owner wanted to maintain a proper relaxing experience. My friend and I both enjoyed our apps and entrees. The service was very attentive and polite. After we got the check, I went to give to the owner to tell him how great our waitress was. This supposed curmudgeon was happy and polite. Clearly proud of his business.I recommend Edgar's highly if you want a reasonably priced Italian dining experience. I'm definitely going back ASAP.And it's true: there is a "No Laptops" sign on the wall.
