First, I'd like to disclose that I'm not a vegan, but I'm open to ANY food that looks interesting or tastes good. So, if you're someone that enjoys a great vegan dish, yet also a steak, then this review is for you. I read about this place in a magazine, and saw it on GMA, so I figured I'd give it a shot to see if the glowing reviews they gave were accurate...and they were absolutely spot on. I tried everything on the menu, which was VERY reasonably priced, especially for NYC. If I hadn't known ahead of time that everything was vegan (and kind of Chinese), I never would have guessed it in a million years. I LOVED the mix of flavors and foods, from the rice rolls to the dumplings, and even the green salad! I thought at first glance when I saw the reasonable price, that this would be akin to food truck quality food (which don't get me wrong, is on average a B), however I was shocked at how amazing and varied each food option was. It really hits the whole range of your pallet, from spicy to sweet to savory, and quite frankly, supersedes any of my favorite Chinese restaurants in my hometown of DC.

Their mushroom sandwich and black pepper cauliflower are fantastic! I wish the menu was a bit bigger, but this is a great spot for lunch and catching up with a friend.

Small and friendly service restaurant. Lots of unique vegetarian options, all with interesting twists. The owner was present and very nice, explaining dishes and even had photos to show. A few tables inside but most are outside on a portion of the street. Definitely worth trying for good vegetation options.

I often go to Fat-Choy. Every time feels like it's my neighborhood spot even tho I am not into vegan food. Still so much flavor and delicious food. One of my fav items is rice, beans, and greens. And special fried rice is so good.

I asked the guy what two things I needed to get. He suggested the mushroom sloppy and the rice dumplings. The mushroom sloppy was ok, had a flavor that was not customary to Asian food, in my opinion, but the bun was really nice and crispy. The rice dumplings were better, for me, but still lacked a little bit of flavor. I would like to come back to try more!

Cozy restaurant dishing up fantastic and inventive vegan Chinese food. Menu is small and contained. Prices are affordable (especially in these inflationary times). Everything comes out in small plates and are meant to be shared. Favorites of the night were the sticky rice dumplings (served with red vinegar, which you can further enhance by ordering their house made hot sauce) and the salt and pepper cauliflower (also accompanied by a mystery ranch-style sauce). The juice box sakes are super cute and were a nice accompaniment to our meal.

Super tasty! I was craving dumplings and came across Fat Choy. It hit the spot. The sauces and the flavors were perfect. The sticky rice dumplings were a bit too greasy for me but I did like the chili crunch on top and the vinegar sauce they came with. The smashed cucumber is always my fave and they didn't disappoint. I wish they had a healthier dumpling option with less oil. I think the price point is too high for the portion size that you get. I inhaled the two dishes super fast and paid close to $20 with tip. With so many vegan/vegetarian Chinese food options nowadays this won't be my go to spot but if I'm walking through I'll def pop in to try the other dishes. Also! They answer the phone with Ahoy Fat Choy. Love it

Wonderful staff! We had the fried cauliflower which was excellent. The sticky rice dumplings were delicious. I loved the mushroom sloppy. Service was lightning fast, and the prices are fair. I'll be back.

There's a lot of hype around Fat Choy so I was excited to try. Definitely a great place for vegans and meat lovers- I enjoyed everything I had. The sticky rice dumplings are definitely a must. It's a cute shop that I'm looking forward to returning to. Friendly staff/owner too, who took the time to chat about other favorite restaurants in the neighborhood.

We tried the Mushroom Sloppy, Salt+pepper Cauli and the Longevity Noodles. The food was blander than what we expected. The noodles had an interesting texture and the cauliflower was perfectly crisp. Their in-house prepared condiments are really good.

The service was prompt and friendly. That's about all this place has to recommend it. Ordered four dishes. One was decent and another passable. The other two were truly horrible. The theme throughout all these dishes (except the cauliflower) was really poor seasoning. It felt like no one who put the menu together had ever actually tasted good Chinese food. Even if the goal was to present a different take on the flavors in Chinese food, it failed on its own terms. I have never left a review (good or bad). Fat Choy unfortunately stood out for having very sub par food.

Absolutely delicious and vegan. While wandering aimlessly in LES, I stumbled into Fat Choy. I saw a slew of customers dining outside and their food looked mouthwatering. So, I had to try. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful, suggesting that I order their most popular items: Mushroom Sloppy for $10 and Sticky Rice Dumplings for $8. My taste buds thanked me greatly. The mushroom sloppy was sloppy as you can imagine. The mushrooms were sautéed well and the slaw was delicious. My favorite fish was the sticky rice dumplings, which were greased and prepared to perfection. There was a decent amount of outdoor seating on the street, providing for interesting and fun people watching.

I absolutely love this place. I've been here a couple of times and it's an ideal spot for a quick and not so expensive meal. I got the mushroom sloppy - so so flavourful! I would definitely recommend that. I also got the rice rolls which I absolutely love and are my all time favourite. And the sautéed garlic bok choy which is my absolute favourite! Quick and easy but so much flavour.

This place is AMAZING! Went here on a belated Valentine's Day date with my partner and the food and service was exquisite. We asked for some recommendations and our server Jace highly recommended the bok choy and longevity noodles. We ended up getting the noodles and rice dumplings. At first, we were surprised at how small the plates were and considering ordering more food. Boy, were we wrong! The servings appear small but are VERY FILLING! The food at Fat Choy is delicious. The noodles had the right enough chew and were flavorful throughout. The rice dumplings had a very pleasant spicy kick, much like you're in a Slayer moshpit and someone hits you in the head, but the adrenaline and speed has got you going and you don't care cause it's OH SO GOOD. Go here and feast on their satiable and tasty vegetarian offerings! I know I'll totally go back for more!
