The owner stopped by and asked if I’d like some water. I kindly declined. He brought back a glass of water—half filled in a dirty glass. Definitely an an odd experience.

Had a great time at Flats Fix, the margaritas were strong but not overpowering, and delicious, and the nachos and duck tacos were heavenly! The service was quick and friendly with great suggestions for both food and drink. We will definitely be back soon!

Like a Greenpoint hipster place but right off Union square
I only stopped here because their outside sidewalk seating was empty and I wanted a place to kill 45 minutes between meetings; I took out my laptop, ordered a beer, opened the menu and was immediately curious about the pastrami taco. So, I ordered a three taco combo: pastrami, brisket, Long Island duck. It comes with rice and beans.
I don't usually like when food genres blend--fusion used to be the popular buzzword and everyone did it, usually badly. It is a sum/parts problem that, at it worst, is the gastronomic embodiment of cultural appropriation. But I also don't like the food blogosphere's obsession with authenticity because cuisines are fluid. Humans migrate and iterate their dietary consumption according to changing geographic contexts. To conflate terroir with ethnicity is its own kind of nationalist prejudice. I guess the point is that Flats Fix's taco menu made me think. It's a NYC melting pot on tortillas.
The pastrami taco was good. The smokey cured, braised, and juicy meat is topped with crisp shredded cabbage and carrots (not quite slaw), and thousand Island sauce. It tastes just like a pastrami sandwich. The menu lists guacamole, and there is green in there, but you'll hardly taste it. That's not a problem; it's delicious, exactly what you'd expect and no disappointment.
The brisket taco was also good, with a salsa verde that's heavy on lime, cilantro and jalapenos, which cuts right through the rich meat. The brisket is tender and tasty. The toppings compliment it nicely. Pico de Gallo for freshness. But it's all about the mouthfeel as you bite through the braised shredded brisket: chewy, buoyant, and fatty. It's good, but nothing special.
The duck taco is what stole the show! It was exceptional. I can't stop thinking about it. It is shredded leg/thigh dark meat with a mango glaze. The guacamole is creamy and that crispy topping is bliss. The whole thing reminds me of the tacos Bobby Flay used to serve in his early Mesa Grill/Mesa City days (back before he was famous and why he got famous in the first place). Bold flavors and well balanced textures.
The service was perfect and attentive. The ambience is Union Square. It's not a fancy place or a quiet place, but if you find yourself there, hungry for upscale tacos, it will hit the spot.

I loved this place, the person who attended us was super friendly, the initial plan was just to have a few drinks but the atmosphere was so good that we decided to stay for something else, the food was delicious and it didn’t take long to be served, I think I would tell anyone to give the opportunity to get to know this place, in addition to the fact that it undoubtedly adapts to any budget.

The shrimp Burrito I ordered barely had any protein inside, it was about 2 pieces of shrimp that were diced up, the entire burrito was mainly Refried beans. Not cool
food was delicious, definitely get the esquites if you go!

Not bad, it was packed and the only seating was by the street trash. Server was rude. Chicken tacos were decent.

Grabbed a to go order of tacos from here - their unique options from the pastrami to the duck are all very good and worth trying. I thought the service when I walked in was a bit rude but the server that took over and helped process my order was kinder. Overall worth a second visit.
