Food was overall good. Service was not the best and atmosphere was great way too crowded though.

The staff was very friendly and they give you recommendations on what to order. The lomo saltado/fried rice was amazing. The pisco sour was the best I have tried in nyc so far.

I’ve been coming to Flor de Mayo (1977) on the upper west side, since before I could talk. The flavors hit every sensory nerve, and I’ve been hooked ever since. This is a family business, a true NYC staple, where they seamlessly fuse Chinese and Peruvian cuisine. The Pollo a la Brasa is the dish I keep coming back for—the 18-hour marinated rotisserie chicken, paired with red beans sent from heaven, yellow rice, and sweet plantains. And the kicker? What Dennis, the owner and his family, calls “spicy chicken sauce”—a vinaigrette and hot sauce fusion that I swear he should bottle. I’d keep it in my pantry, a secret weapon for any meal.
The menu options are endless, and there isn’t a single dish I’ve ordered that hasn’t blown me away. Flor de Mayo has always been part of my NYC experience—every Christmas dinner, every bad day turned better, and every good day made great when it ended here. I can wholeheartedly say it’s my death row meal. I’d eat it every day if I could. It’s the perfect reason for bringing people together.
Supporting institutions like this is what being a New Yorker is all about. Try it for yourself, send a friend, bring your family—whatever you do, the wait is worth it. I fully support the culture of no reservations. It’s like a rollercoaster ride of flavor, comfort, and pure happiness, and when you’re in it, you feel alive.
Thanks again for having us, see you next time!

I had green rice with pollo sin hueso, tallarin verde with grilled chicken, green rice with lomo saltado, and pork fried rice with lomo saltado. I been here a few times. Its one of my favorite low key spot. I had super nut cracker (very strong). The owner and the staff over there are amazing and good people. Did i mention they are quick?

The waiting staff kind of rushes you. The people who serve the food seemed really nice. They play music and movies which is nice. Food was pretty decent, although It felt a little over priced. Rice we ordered was mushy. I would probably tey this place again, maybe it was an off day. But I wouldn't travel far for this. Just my opinion.

Had the chicken and fried rice combo. It was delicious. Lots of flavor. I can’t disregard a Chinese/latino cuisine mash-up. This place is great!

Orders sesame chicken asked them for small crispy pieces. The lady repeated it and still I got big pieces that were soggy. I hate it when they do that so much. Makes me never want to order sesame chicken again. Like your running the meal or self. Last time I get food from there for sure.
