waiter was very pushy trying to sell everything on the menu - overall don't like the attitude of the host - he's not welcoming or friendly

The place is alright, purely talking about the food and the atmosphere. Its got a perfect atmosphere for a date night. Definitely get a reservation if you wanted to be seated at a reasonable time or risk standing around for over 20 minutes for a table. I got the Al pastor tacos. Meat was a little dry, pineapple was sparce and not very juicy. The hot sauce was very good and elevated the taco just enough to be a bit better than just good. The Hibiscus agua fresca was alright, not very sweet. Service once seated is pretty quick at least. Always attentive to your water replenishment at least. Not a fan of the lack of hispanic/mexican music in the restaurant. They have the soundtrack of a shopping mall.

Its ok overall, nothing too special.

I had an awful experience, I just had to finally share after being a customer of this restaurant a few times over the past 5 years…I’ll sum it up with sub-par, overpriced food and wine!

I ordered a shrimp dish, and I got 5 little, overcooked rubbery shrimp, a bit of rice and lots of bean sauce (barely any flavor) + 1 glass of Spanish wine — a few hours later, I have a terrible headache. The wine must be such bad/low quality that a single glass would do that. These 2 items $50+. I will not be returning and do not recommend.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get rod the music and the t.v. of the bar. They add nothing to the ambiance.

The bartender/server seemed new and a bit short with her words. She didn't want to split the check and rather than asking if we were on the same tab, assumed we were together and told us splitting tabs isn't allowed, but she would do it this time as an exception. I go there often and never have a problem with splitting tabs so this was unusual. The food is delicious, but maybe sit at a table. This new bartender leaves much to be desired.

Really good experience from being greeting by a lovely young lady, to a responsive bartender, to a very nice, polite, and friendly server. Food wasn't as great as I remember but it has been 5 years. Definitely will be back.

Went to Fonda's Chelsea location last Saturday for the first time. The ambiance downstairs is warm and festive; the vibe upstairs is more romantic. The two of us shared the guacamole & chips, the watermelon-cucumber salad, tortilla soup, and grilled shrimp over black beans and rice and were more than satisfied. The salad was refreshing with a light lime dressing. The tortilla soup was divine with a hearty, smoky broth poured over the tortilla strips, roasted chicken and slices of avocado. The grilled shrimp was served over a black bean sauce and accompanied by "creamy" green rice blended with queso fresco, cilantro, and jalapeno. It was even better than anticipated. Cocktails were delicious, service was on point, and prices were very reasonable. Will be going back!
