cash only but there’s an atm! decent amount of outdoor seating that’s good for lunch (the inside is a bit dark)i thought it was nothing special but nothing terrible

I'm done with all of the restaurants in this group. They are overpriced and underwhelming. I gave this one a shot after having several very unpleasant experiences at Lil Frankies, and continue to be disappointed. Plenty of other noteworthy Italian restaurants to dine at, that aren't cash-only I might add. At least I didn't get sick this time!

It's a classic East Village, neighborhood Italian place, with pictures of mama and grandma (one presumes) on the walls. The food is just great: terrific sauces, and everything--from the mussels, to the branzino, to the gnocchi, to the tiramisu--is prepared perfectly. Seating is a bit tight and noise levels too high, but the (reasonably priced) food more than makes up for that.

It's a meh for me though obviously an institution. Had to wait 40 mins for our table despite having a reservation, which I always find annoying (obvious the resys were too close so they can squeeze $ out of the clientele). Host was rude, though manager apologized and was nice (though nothing special offered). Food was ok, but nothing special, the sage ravioli was def addicting though a little heavy, and the rest of the dishes on the forgettable side. It's fine if you want a pre-drinks dinner in EV without spending too much but don't expect to be wowed (or treated great).

I stopped by for a drink and was delighted. Great vibe, cocktails, food. The expresso martini was to die for.

I don't mind paying a lot for my food if it is exceptional food. I easily overlook a well worn decor and ambiance if the food is exceptional. This food is absolutely NOT exceptional!!! The only thing that was slightly above average was the sauce and the bread. The chicken was pounded paper thin and breaded so who knows if it was even chicken. The meatballs held the sauce but they were very small and perfectly rounded (ie Costco) with just ok flavor. Dessert was atrocious. The molten lava cake was a flavorless chocolate pancake. The restaurant itself is a hovel- and not a cozy, artsy eclectic hovel. Picture a restaurant that had a fire with only the kitchen left standing. It's quickly cleared out and cleaned up. Furnishings are found by dumpster diving and the kitchen is up and running again very quickly. Oh but now there are 10 tables squished together in the kitchen itself (and no it's not a pretty shiny kitchen). It's the type of place you expect to get a "great hearty meal at a good price". Then you see the prices and think the food must be incredible. So you get zero ambiance, meh food and completely overpay for the experience.

The food and service were both very good. The only drawback is that they accept cash only and their ATM was too flakey for any of us to get money. And the nearest other ATM was a Bank of America that didn't accept all cards. I wish Frank would accept credit cards.

The food here is amazing. Great pasta. Wonderful classic Italian sandwiches. Not sure why it is compare rated. Maybe bad service.

One of my favorite chefs & spots in EV. If you are a bar person there is a small one, if you can get a seat it is a great spot for a date night.

Fantastic handmade pastas, sauces, and various other dishes with an authentic Italian American flair. A cozy, romantic interior, and ample outdoor seating. Highly recommended for a date night or quick weeknight dinner.

My first time visiting NY City and my 24 yr old granddaughter (she lives and works there) insisted we had dinner at this quaint Italian restaurant called "Frank"! I'm in my 70s....I was in awe with the authentic food and atmosphere. Great service and the best homemade potato gnocchi in red sauce with meatballs and cheese! It's just delicious! I live in Toledo, Ohio, and we have some pretty delicious Italian restaurants, but this beats them all! I highly recommend Frank Restaurant for their home style decor and excellent quality food! ? Hope to visit again next summer! I'll be sure to bring cash. they don't take credit cards ? but, we managed and will be prepared next time. The wait staff are friendly and attentive. "As Arnold says, I'll be back!" LoLYou'll love it ,too! XO ?
