Best steam buns, hands down. The filling was juicy and full of flavor, and the bun itself had a perfect chew to it.

No frills steamed bun & dumpling place, apparently a huge wholesale provider for stores in the area! <$10 to feed two people. In the basement of the mall (East Broadway Mall, under the highway), kinda hard to find, but it’s a vibe when you get there!
The ladies work are so nice. Service is super fast. Cash only.
The buns had a taste that lingered in my mouth all day, but they were good at first bite. I preferred the dumplings (order #2).

Difficult to find, in the basement of a mall that is mostly abandoned stores
But, if you make it here, you are in for a treat, amazing food for prices from an era long gone. You start feeling like you are finally allowed to call yourself a true new Yorker, in the inner circles of a secret, exclusive club. I doubt scoring a dinner at masa would have the same thrill

Famous for their small steamed buns and the amazing vinegar sauce that cuts through the buns perfectly. PSA you can buy their sauce (maybe 12 or 16 oz?) for a few dollars, just ask!

SO TASTY melts in mouth like butter and so so so cheap
What a Happy Accident to stumble on. Downstairs in the empty suspicious mall, very tasty and affordable bao. We paid 28 for 7 people

Absolutely amazing little hole in the wall dumpling/bao spot.
Not the best looking environment, and could feel a little sketchy, but the food was made fresh, big portions, and very very tasty.

This spot is in the basement of a really grungy and borderline abandoned mall on the far side of Chinatown. But it’s likely one of the best places to get juicy buns and juicy and well seasoned dumplings in all of Manhattan Chinatown. The service is really friendly, the prices are still so low, even with inflation, and the food is so good. There’s always a small army of female workers rolling dough, shaping buns and dumplings, and doing food prep in the back. I’ve gotten multiple types of dumplings and the steamed buns and all have been amazing. I hope they always stay in business! There’s some tables and chairs for eating across from the stall, but definitely better as takeout.
Cash only!

This is probably some of the best pork buns you will ever encountered. I’m not going to lie the environment in this place resembles a zombie apocalypse, but the food is amazing, affordable, and quick.

Great value at this hole in the wall. Go into this shady looking mall and go down a flight of stairs. Had 6 big ("small" on the menu) steamed buns for only $5! They're better than your average chau siu bao because they're soupy. This is probably one of my favorite restaurants in NYC.
They also have wholesale prices: 30 for $28. NOTE: that all wholesale items are frozen, so you need to cook them yourself!! Dumplings you can boil for 5 mins he said and the buns you need a steamer.
Seriously, I was skeptical. I mean, could anything this good actually exist in a mall that looks like it's been abandoned since the 80s? Turns out, yes. The food at FZWZWJXFW is shockingly delicious. The fried dumplings and steamed buns? Forget about it. And the prices? Let's just say your wallet will thank you.
The best part? This place is a melting pot of deliciousness. I swear, I saw people from like eight different countries all crammed into this tiny space, united by their love of amazing food. It's like the United Nations of Dumplings, hidden in the armpit of Chinatown.
Just a heads up: bring cash. They don't take cards, probably because the card reader would get lost in the mall's general state of disrepair. So, if you're looking for an adventure (and some seriously good food), brave the East Broadway Mall and find FZWZWJXFW. You won't regret it. Just maybe bring a flashlight. And maybe a hazmat suit. (Just kidding...mostly.)

Fr tho, the amount of people trying to turn your everyday working class meal into something trendy or cool is unappealing. Just because it’s cheap dingy hole in the wall doesn’t make it good.
Let’s be real, it’s not good. Don’t get me wrong - it’s not bad. It feeds people for cheap. But the quality is reflected in the price. And that’s ok!
