Food is delicious and service is attentive—a favorite neighborhood restaurant for lunch or dinner.

Didn’t have a reservation on a Sunday night, so had to sit at the sushi bar. It was actually wonderful to see so many chefs working to create the beautiful dishes here. Very delicate sushi with interesting toppings, like a horseradish sauce. Our order was quite simple, but I was able to see firsthand some of the creations being prepared. Be warned: this place is not inexpensive. But the sushi is a notch above. Our kind waitress was very well informed, so ask questions! Bonus: Japanese toilets in the restrooms!

Curated sushi experience of very high quality. Service is attentive and constant. Prices are commensurate.

Some classics just deliver and Sushi of Gari has not lost its touch. Perfect sushi and impeccable old school service. They noticed our left-handed diner and placed plates and utensils accordingly. I'm adding it to my go-to list as I've been craving a civil and caring dining environment w great execution and limited social media presence.

We ordered a la carte sushi and whatever our server recommended was amazing. We tried sl different types of sashimi and hand rolls and they all were delicious. Little pricey though.

Four of us dined at Gari Columbus last night for a special birthday occasion. Our reservation was at 6:30. We had delicious food, though orders were confused by our server (who was nice but thinly stretched) and the courses came unevenly and not in a timely manner. That's somewhat understandable because the restaurant was busy. However, at 8:05 after getting our tea at the end of the meal, the hostess came over to our table in a panic and said we had to pay our bill and vacate the table for the next reservation. We were on track to be done anyway shortly, but her aggressive behavior came very close to spoiling the entire evening. The restaurant is extremely expensive, but we knew and expected that. What we hadn't expected was the in your face rudeness. There are now several excellent and upscale sushi restaurants on the upper west side. No one in our party will return to Gari.

This is a restaurant in our neighborhood where we go not often but on a regular basis. We never tried the Omakase which seems delicious but a bit complicated to enjoy the freshmess of the fish. So we stick to normal sushi where the price is ore reasonable but overall where you can appreciate the freshness of the fish. 8 people behind the counter are preparing sushi and this is half the fun. We know some of the waitresses. So for us it is cozy and delicious.

Always my neighborhood go-to. The best sushi in the area by far. Always consistent, authentic, comfort food, fresh fish, a New York classic. Not stuffy like all the omakase spots popping up all over, but much more high end and elegant than the other Japanese restaurants around. It’s the perfect in between, and the quality is always there!

Opentable Diner

We arrived 5 min past reservation time and received a stern warning that the next seating is 1 h 40 min away and the hostess “hopes we will have enough time”. I wished her “good evening to you too”. Turns out the allotted time was more than enough to spend in tired, “mid century modern “ space under the care of unpleasant server who tried to upsell each order after she already wrote it down and hovered vigilantly over our table to speed up dishes clearing. Lest we linger. Chirashi was a tasteless dump of thin slices of average quality fish, including mealy shrimp. Identical pieces were in sushi “premium” dinner, except for an oyster. Appetizers were ok. Sushi regular was also average with chewy, overly thin yellow tail. This restaurant used to be phenomenal until 7-8 y ago; however, the decline in quality of fish coupled with crassness of the front desk and unpleasant service has reached the nadir. Or perhaps not, but it would be unwise testing a new depts.

We had the Omakase, usually we expect something special from this kind of experience but save yourself the money and head to Wegmas and get their sushi. It’s about the same.

We had a wonderful experience. Our server was very nice and helpful. Drinks were pricy but really well crafted. Everything we ate was delicious.
