Jonathan was amazing!

We came as a group of six to Gitano on a Saturday night to celebrate our girlfriend before her wedding. We loved the dinner and dance vibes, something that’s hard to find in the city. While the music and interior were great, the overall experience left us disappointed.

We ordered nearly every drink on the menu, only to find them all sour and bitter. Our waiter explained that most of their mixes are on the sour side. We started with chips and guac, but the chips were extremely stale. The steak and lamb birria were good, but the fish tasted off. The biggest disappointment came at the end of the night. We expressed that we were ready for dessert and requested one of each option (a total of three). Plates and spoons were even set on the table. About 20 minutes later, our waiter returned to tell us that the dessert order hadn’t been placed in time before the kitchen closed. This was frustrating, especially since we made it clear we were there to celebrate the bride and wanted a celebratory dessert. We left craving dessert, but by then, everything nearby was closed. Not the best way to end the night.

Gitano is a large, spacious, open concept restaurant that offers the relaxed feel of a tropical oasis!! The decor is well thought out and intentionally executed to provide the aesthetic and ambiance of a tropical island escape and the food and cocktails were delicious. They offer indoor and outdoor dining and the atmosphere is relaxed but lively, and the staff was very courteous and attentive. Definitely worth the visit, and perfect for a girl's date, romantic date or celebratory dinner.

Had my friends birthday dinner here - to summarize my experience with a large party it was one where the waiters are rude, they forget your requests and you need to remind them multiple times for things, management and servers clearer don't care about the customers or service they provide if the tip is automatic.

Our server and busboy Carlos and Jonathan were absolutely horrible and rude. We had a large party so I guess they didn't feel like they needed to provide good service due to the automatic gratuity... When asking about food suggestions and ordering Carlos was very impatient and would roll his eyes if we had a question or request. Given this was all of our first times at the restaurant this was very annoying and inconsiderate to experience. We would have to request things multiple times and remind them while also getting the wrong food sent to our tables. At the end, our friend whose birthday it was tried to pay and when we said we were taking the bill Carlos huffed and puffed over this and got very defensive and resistant. I'm not sure why he thinks it's his place to react in such a way to our request to pay for our friends birthday meal but I just found the whole experience here very bad despite the decent food.

In addition, they need more fans for hotter summer days. They had one/two for the whole restaurant which didn't do much. Given this poor service, the when we notified the manager Nate he did not provide anything other than his condolences. Given the automatic gratuity for the poor service we received, I feel it would've been appropriate to receive a comp of some sort since we bought $500+ worth of food. Clearly they don't care that much about their customers here...

The one person who was helpful our whole nice was Olga. She was great even though she wasn't our server and helped us get the manager Nate when both Jonathan and Carlos tried to avoid getting him. We had waited 20 minutes for the manager (yet another request that they seemed to intentionally forget about) and when it was clear both of them did not want us to speak to the manager Olga was very considerate to our needs and brought Nate over in minutes.

the space is beautiful and brings a new level of lux to south street seaport. the dj during dinner service brought the vibes & it's a perfect place for a group dinner. the seafood dishes stood out IMO, just know that the plates are on the smaller side.

Fantastic addition to the Seaport area! Our large party (12 people) really enjoyed lunch today at Gitano NYC - super friendly and accommodating hosts and servers, amazing atmosphere and decor, and fantastic food. Delicious cocktails (and mocktails too!). Love how the dishes are for sharing, everything was so tasty! Recommend the tuna crudo and steak. Looking forward to returning again soon :)

Kid-friendliness: Kid friendly! We had the first seating on Sunday at 12:00p and our group included a 5yr old, 2 yr old, and 2 month old. All kids had fun!

What a beautiful place! I was in awe just walking into the place. So chic and so grand. Once we ordered our drinks and food it came out so quickly. The drinks take you back to Mexico on the beach in Tulum. The food was fresh with the most unique and authentic Mexican flavors. I also have to mention the music and vibes of the space. It’s dinner and dancing and New York needs a place like this! This is a must visit spot!

Vegetarian options: Lots of options for vegetarians.

Dietary restrictions: They will ask you at the table what you can and can not have and will accommodate accordingly.

Would have loved to go and experience the place but they unceremoniously cancelled my reservation for a party of 12 on March 21st. We had a party bus booked and made plans to celebrate my youngest cousin who finally was turning 21. I had 5 days before recieved email that they were working on a prefixe menu for us, then I followed up to inquire on the menu and if I could reduce the number in my party and the response was so cold “ Gitano is temporarily closed” meanwhile I still see they are taking reservations for other nights that weekend. Very disappointed in how I now see they have treated others on here so poorly. I emailed back asking why and when could they rebook me if that weekend and they never responded. Horrible service horrible communication horrible first impression
