A real hidden gem tucked away on a side street. Months ago I walked by Golden Bowl and saw the hot foods in front of the window and told myself I'd come back to try. Yesterday I was in the area and decided it was time. They don't have a menu, just a selection of the owners home cooking from that day. For $7 you get a plate of rice and selection of 4 dishes. All are fantastic. If you're an adventurous eater and support mom and pop shops, this is the spot. And if you've ever been to a Chinese restaurant and saw a dish that you'd be curious to take a bite of, but can't justify paying $17 for a full service - this is the spot to try as much as your heart desires for a couple dollars.

The best value for this amount of food! My grandma used to take me here as a little kid and I still visit to get 4 items for $7! They give so much food and it’s not as oily as other places!

To sum it all: Great food, lot of selection, big portion and quite cheap.Place is quite small though so it will be hard to get a seat during lunch/dinner time.

In my opinion, I love it, because I may pick and choose any dish. (Your needs and wants may differ.) Also, I pig out at The Golden Bowl for an awesome College Kid price! I can even drink college beer purchase here, so very cool! (Now all wee need is a college binge party here, every night after closing!)New York is popping international things. Yes.

*this review is only for you tiao* Not warm & no dou jiang (soybean milk). But this you tiao, even in its cold (worst) form, is crunchy, oily, and fragrant, a tale tell sign of its potential when you inevitably decide to take it home to heat over a pan.

Tried this old-school lunch spot recently for a cheap $7 lunch. Very narrow entryway with a large variety of dishes (but not as many as the other place on the corner of Division farther down the street). You get to choose 4 dishes along with rice, so I chose curry chicken, bamboo shoots, fried fish, and string beans. Lots of rice and definitely plenty of food. It also came with a seaweed soup that tasted okay. Everything tasted fine but not particularly flavorful or craveable. Even the curry chicken didn't have too much flavor to it, unfortunately. It'll fill you up if that's what you're going for, but I think I'll try the spot down the street next time!

Stumbled on this place by window shopping and craving for some take out so decided to pickup a delicious looking dinner box with pork, chicken and some beef. Just point to what you want and have your cash ready and you are good to go. Didn't pickup any veggies as it wouldn't be a value at the $7 price point. With 4 meat items, some decent tasting rice and a nice hot cup of seaweed soup to wash down the saltiness, you will have a fulfilling meal. Just watch the bones as there seemed to be alot.
This is the type of place that you want to visit when you miss old school Chinatown. Their fried curler is airy and tasty. Also tried their dough flake soup but that was not really my thing. Will have to go back and try the other stuff.

I love this place. I have been coming here over 10 years. You choose 4 different things and they put them on your plate which comes with rice and soup. They do not speak very good English, so it takes a lot of finger pointing, but that's also fun. And it's cheap, the whole thing costs $5.50 now. It used to be $3 back in the day. I normally get pork belly, kombu kelp, daikon radish and clams. They are excellent!
