Upon arrival you’re introduced to Grandma’s Home with it’s beautiful and immersive decor honoring Chinese culture. The tableware is intentional as well, where the chopstick rests are carved to represent the 12 different animals from the Chinese zodiac.
Their food is homey yet unique, all the classic dishes you would want with a modern twist. If you like century egg, I recommend that for appetizer. The sauce has a tanginess to it that contrasts the creaminess of the egg. My favorite was their seafood fried rice, each grain cooked to golden perfection. It’s hard to find good fried rice in nyc but they do it brilliantly. The black pepper, pork belly, and salted yolk were good as well. You can’t go wrong with any of the dishes to be honest. Lastly, we finish off our meal with coconut pudding with red bean paste and guava and coconut shaved ice. However, I do believe their dessert changes every so often.
The servers could be slightly faster and more attentive but they make it up with the atmosphere and food.

looove this place - a true hidden gem! the food is excellent, the ambiance is really nice, and the hospitality/staff/kindness is A+ (top 3 of all the restaurants i've ever been to in nyc across the 6+ years i've lived here). can't wait to be back!

Nothing bad to say, eggplant and steak were great. Nice cozy, chicken setting. I was only drinking water and my glass was never empty, attentive service.

This review might seem a little strange as I didn’t eat here, but got a refund. Here is the story: my 92 year old aunt insisted on treating us a lunch and was proud of herself for being technologically savvy with cell phone ordering. Only when we went to the restaurant in downtown Seattle to pick up we realized that her order went to this restaurant in NYC with the same name! Seeing my aunt was very upset with herself I called the restaurant in NYC. The manager was very understanding and refunded my aunt’s credit card immediately although the food was ready for pickup. This was indeed a very kind gesture that made my aunt relax and laughed too. I will definitely be there to be a real customer next time when I’m in NYC! Thank you very much!

I've been hearing about this place and so decided to give it a try and boy, I was not disappointed. All the staff were friendly and accommodating and even the owner herself came out to greet and check up on us! We ordered har gow, soy glazed crispy fish, duck fried rice, crispy skin chicken, peppercorn beef and tofu, boy choy with tofu skin, and the owner recommended the ju ju bao, and that was def the star of tonight's dinner but that is not taking away from the others as there was no bad dish. The cherry on top was the owner coming out to ask how was dinner and wishing to see us again, which we will! Highly recommend!

What a fantastic restaurant with such a warm staff. We have been at the restaurant and really enjoyed their food and atmosphere. We decided to have a private event at Grandma's Home. It was a pleasure working with Laura on our party plans. Our guests were all raved about the delicious food, fun cocktails, and wonderful service. In addition, the staff is so warm and accommodating. They were very thoughtful and went out of our way to make it such a nice night for the party.

Came here with a larger group for lunch. They were able to accommodate our group size in a semi-private dining area. The restaurant decor is lovely and there are lots of options to choose from on the menu.
The lunch specials are a great value and they all arrived so quicky after ordering which I appreciated.
I ordered the mapo tofu lunch special and although the flavor was a bit bland for my liking, I appreciated the other additions to the combo lunch to add some variety. Everyone else really enjoyed what they ordered but I'd probably order something else from the menu next time.

I brought my mom here for lunch. She is from Hangzhou and was nearly in happy tears because she hasn't had her hometown food in so long.
The food was perfect. Light, refreshing, and filling all at once. It tasted just like the Grandma's Home she went to in Hangzhou.
Thanks to the staff and Laura for making this impromptu visit so special. We hope to be back soon!!!

I went several times Grandma's home in Shanghai. Apparently the menu is much smaller in NYC. Food is good, food portion is small compare with other traditional Chinese (Canton) restaurants in US.

After we sent in our order we waited for one hour with no food served. We asked twice about the order without a response of “being too busy.” Customers who arrived later were served way ahead of us. They really need to work on the organization and operations.

Love the creative cocktails. Lots to choose from in terms of the appetizers which I liked the fish, century egg, and soup dumplings. Mains, I love the green tea chicken pot, loofa, and soft shell crab.

Excruciatingly underwhelming, unfortunately ordinary. Bland food, horrible portions, uninspired, lacking any authenticity or passion. Interior felt like a hotel lobby, not Grandmas home. There was no ambient noise so you could hear the conversations of every table near you. No liquor either and a sparse sake menu. Staff was attentive and friendly. The pork belly hong shao rou was 30% pork belly and mostly tofu and bamboo?!. We left feeling scammed.

All the dishes were well done with good flavor without being heavy. The staff also made us feel very taken care of. We had the sweet and sour pork, the chili chicken, and the bok choi with tofu skin. Each one was distinct in its flavors and well done in execution. A great place to get comforting and authentic Chinese food
