The food was quite tasty, fresh and nicely presented. The prices seemed reasonable considering the location. Tourist Central! Brought my sister, a tourist, after theater. We had a lovely time. Would go again without any tourists, if we were nearby.
Amazing food, great attentive service, quick dinner before Broadway show (1 hour), great set meal deal.
Our group of 4 on an early Thursday night never really felt like "guests" here. We knew that we wouldnt be seated until our full party of 4 had arrived, but the restaurant was half empty when 3 of us had arrived and we needed to wait for our fourth before getting seated. While the food was alright, we felt that the staff treated us like a timed exercise due to their 1:30hr policy, and that meant that we never were welcomed to enjoy our pre-fixe meal. Rarely a smile, rarely going the extra mile to enhance our experience. Very mechanical treatment. Robotic.
Amazing experience and delicious food! We had the big feast and the food just kept coming! The staff was lovely and we had so much fun :)
Always exceptional when we dine at Gyu-Kaku, but Times Square always gives seven star service
The food and service were amazing. However, the large parties around us were so unbelievably loud it was almost intolerable. I've been to the midtown east location and never experienced this
Have eaten at 3 other Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ places. And this one as just ok- Food was bland & half of the servings, that I had experienced at the other restaurants. Very slow service and it was not even crowded, had to ask for a fork for my 9 year old grandson 2 times, then after 10 minutes I went to front and they got one for me. Seriously - read the table - child might not use chopsticks. Table needed a good scrub down. We used our travel wipes and they were gross. Lunch for 3 & 1 child - $140 with tip
A great experiencial dining event for us while on vacation in NY. We first were introduced to this on a Walking Tour of Hell's Kitchen and wanted to return for a meal. It was great!
Great experience especially for family outings and get togethers. Will definitely recommend and will come back.
Our waiter Memo, was horrible. He was rude to us, did not fill our waters, did not change our grill or do anything we asked. We were also forced at a table with 1 grill when we specifically asked for 2 grills because we had a vegetarian in the group and did not want her food cooked next to it, so she only ordered cooked foods. He was grumpy, and lied to me about what coupons could be used when I have always been able to use my double rewards and a couple for money off. It was a horrible experience and we don't want to come back. And me and my husband always come here & used to love it a lot. We also had to wait 40 mins standing from when we had our reservation time, and they still shoved us into a booth. We had Memo as our waiter and he was absolutely horrible and extremely rude. From the moment we sat down, his attitude made my group uncomfortable, we were honestly scared to even order more food because of how he spoke to us. He got visibly irritated if we didn't order in the exact way he wanted (for example, I ordered rice first and he snapped, “I asked for MEATS”). Totally uncalled for. To make things worse, we waited 40 minutes past our reservation time for a table. We were a group of six and had a vegetarian with us, and we had specifically requested a second grill in the notes, but they shoved us into a booth with only one grill. That forced our vegetarian friend to order cooked non-meat dishes instead of grilling with us. Memo never came back after taking our order. No water refills, no straws after asking, no grill change, no checking in, nothing. He didn't even ask if we wanted to order more food, but he conveniently reappeared at the end when it was time for the bill and the tip. He also lied about the coupon policy. I had just used the same rewards and $3 off coupon the night before with my husband (we're regulars and have always loved this place), but Memo refused to honor it this time and insisted I couldn't combine them.
Restaurantji Recommends
We had a reservation but they sat us 30 minutes late and we almost missed curtain at our Broadway show. The staff did not communicate well and the food was mediocre (what I was able to eat before dashing off to the theater). Not worth it.
Great fun with my 6 year old! We loved getting to grill our own food - smores were wonderful
Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ did not disappoint. We were seated promptly, the waiter was efficient and courteous. The food was very good and plentiful. We had some people at our table with a food allergy, and the waiter was diligent in making sure all the food brought to our table was safe for all to eat. He anticipated what we needed but was never in our faces and did not rush us through the courses. It was fun to BBQ our food at our own table. I would recommend this to anyone who would like to try something different and fun.
Most concern is the food quality, really bad. Most of the meat are chewy and had to spit out. Terrible
