Food was delicious and the waitstaff was courteous and helpful! This was our first experience like this so the help was appreciated. Our waitress was Miumiu and she was great.

This is my most favorite BBQ. I used to order Sumakara Pork alot if I am not wrong and spicy shrimp. You can’t go wrong with their chessy butter corn too. I have been here three times. So first time was completely okay. But the second time, we got served by New server. He spilled all the water on me but didn’t even apologize to me and seems like he want to hide it.( He doesn’t come right away to mob the water too). I was sitting in wet, this is kinda feel annoying to me. Anyway, this is his first day(Maybe). So I forgave him. Right now this time, server name is Sonam G*. He treated us like we are coming his home to eat free. His tone was really making me uncomfortable whenever we ordered more. After we ordered third round, he said “this is the last to order okay”. I mean this is buffet and never heard something like that. He doesn’t know I have been in here for at least three times. If it is policy, he should explain me from the start. I don't know something is really off with him. Overall, foods are delicious and service is depends on who you get.

We love Gyu-Kaku. The quality and value are both there, and it's just a really fun experience. It's a great place to take visiting family so we can spend time together over a nice meal without feeling rushed out. It's our go-to spot before or after shows

Let me set the stage: Times Square. The land of $40 tourist-trap margaritas, questionable costumed Elmos, and restaurants where food usually tastes like it’s been seasoned with disappointment. So when I saw Gyu-Kaku smack dab in the middle of it all, I braced myself for overpriced meat that would probably taste like regret.

But plot twist: it ended up being the best meal of my NYC trip.

Our group of four went with the Yakiniku Party Set ($170)—a parade of starters, premium meats, seafood, and even s’mores for dessert. Honestly, at that price we almost went for the AYCE option, but we weren’t that hungry (rookie mistake). In hindsight, should we have gone for it? Absolutely. Do I now live in shame? Also yes.

Starters included:
Gyu-Kaku Salad ×2 (so fresh I almost felt healthy—almost)

Miso Soup (classic, no complaints)

Chicken Garlic Noodles (garlicky goodness, inhaled in seconds)

Gyu-Sushi (surprisingly fancy for a BBQ starter, we weren’t mad at it)

Edamame (finger workout + salty snack)

Napa Kimchi (spicy, funky, perfect balance)

Japanese Chicken Karaage (crispy nuggets of joy)

Spicy Tuna Volcano (dramatic name, tasty payoff)

BBQ lineup:
Prime Kalbi Short Rib Mix Cut (melts in your mouth)

Filet Mignon (fancy pants steak)

Umakara Ribeye (umami + kara = yes please)

Bistro Hanger Steak (flavor bomb)

Miso New York Steak (Times Square glow-up)

Yaki-Shabu Beef (thin slices, cooked in seconds)

Chicken Basil (unexpected but solid)

Umakara Pork (juicy and flavorful)

Kalbi Chuck Rib (can’t go wrong)

Garlic Shrimp (perfect break from all the red meat)

And finally: S’mores over the grill because nothing says “end of a steak feast” like torching and touching marshmallows like a caveman in a suit.

Service: 10/10. The staff rotated our grill plates more often than Times Square rotates tourists. The pacing of dishes was intentional, teasing our taste buds with a build-up worthy of a Broadway act.

Quality: Shockingly excellent for being right next to an M&M’s store and a Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.

Price: Yeah, it stung a little but the experience, the quality of the proteins, and the pure joy of grilling filet mignon in the middle of Times Square made it 100% worth it.

Would I come back? Absolutely. I’d even hunt down other Gyu-Kaku locations in different cities like it’s Pokémon. Gotta grill ’em all.

Final verdict: Times Square finally has something that isn’t a scam.

We arrived five minutes early for our reservation and did not receive the table we had specifically requested. Unfortunately, the host (Jennifer) displayed a poor attitude and lacked the professionalism needed to communicate effectively with guests. As a regular customer of Gyu-Kaku since 2010 and gold member holder, I was deeply disappointed by this experience. Being told we might have to wait an additional hour after our confirmed reservation felt unacceptable and unwelcoming. But we ended up seating at an alternative table after waiting over 30 mins. And we had a good meal by our friendly waiters.
