We were really excited to try a vegan Korean restaurant and the food was delicious! Both the kimchi stew and Mongolian stew were very flavourful - I would definitely recommend them. We also tried the kimbap combo which had 4 different flavours of kimbap. This was my first time trying vegan kimbap and I was pleasantly surprised, all flavours were very tasty and I don’t think I would’ve guessed that they were vegan if I didn’t know beforehand. We also had the Korean pancakes platter, which was good but I think I’ve had better Korean pancakes before so this wasn’t my favourite. The service was amazing - the staff were so friendly, attentive, nice, and polite. They cleared tables so quickly, I was really impressed by how efficiently they all worked together. Our plates were cleared quickly before our next courses were served, they explained the dishes, and overall it was a great experience! The vibes were great, the decor was cool and I liked the no-shoes seating and everyone was enjoying themselves so the atmosphere was inviting and fun. They had a coat check area at the front where they stored our shopping bag for us, which was really helpful because it would be cumbersome to have that at the table.

you really get what you pay for: Very different restaurant. You sit on a sort of bench at floor level, and your feet extend below, underneath the table. Great vegetarian food. Lots of choices. Great service. It's a bit expensive, though. ingredients, delightful ambiance, and wonderful staff.Very different restaurant. Solid vegetarian menu. Very generous portions for a tasting menu. Some things like the lettuce wrap salad with pineapple were fantastic, but others like the fried tofu & sweet potato noodles didn't do it for me. Would go back for the a la carte. Very inventive though, four stars for service, atmosphere, and creativity.

As others have mentioned, the price is high but you really get what you pay for: high quality ingredients, delightful ambiance and wonderful staff. Every dish compliments the other in such a unifying way. Make sure to try one of their cocktails - refreshing and fitting to the cuisine.

As you sit cross-legged in the warm and inviting space of HanGawi, you will feel as if you're in someone's home, about to enjoy a meal that feels homey and made with care. And that is what you'll get. The kimchi tofu stew here is incredible. The depth of flavor (not too spicy at all), the delightfully chewy rice cakes, and mushrooms fill the bowl with combinations of flavors and textures and nutrients that will make you feel nourished and warm. This is where you'll want to be in a rainy or cold day, or simply when you're feeling like tasting something made with love. Plus, it's extremely friendly towards dietary needs, with plenty of gluten-free and vegan items on the menu. I personally wasn't the biggest fan of the kale pancakes and the bibimbap tasted pretty standard, but the tofu stew is truly a cannot miss.

The atmosphere and attitude of the place is something not often found in vegan restaurants. They make you feel as if they are honored to have you, and that every bite was prepared with strict attention to detail. We had the seasonal tasting menu and would recommend to anyone. Be prepared to take off your shoes before entering and to sit in a faux floor sat style (booths are built into the ground as most Americans probably would feel put out to actually sit on the floor in the traditional manner). What a treat! Truly delicious vegetarian Korean cuisine served in a retreat-like setting. I will return many times. Makes me smile and get hungry everytime I think about our experience there. Service is attentive and expert. Very reasonable prices for New York City and for the quality of food and experience. It's a 6 out of 5 rating from me!

Great time overall. slightly on the expensive side, really friendly staff, hard to get a seat without reservation. Make sure to call beforehand. Food was on point! Really enjoyable. Although the quantity isn’t much (especially for the starters) I would recommend to skip to the main course directly if you’re hungry lol.
