The food was excellent, our server Ledon was wonderful. We had a fantastic evening. Thank you
Stylish and welcoming with a creative fusion menu that really stands out. The Swedish–Ethiopian flavors are fresh, bold, and beautifully executed, and the service is warm and attentive. A great spot for a memorable meal in NYC.
Fabulous blend of cultures fusing Ethiopian and Swedish foods for a flavor explosion that you don't find many place.
The service, ambiance and food were outstanding. Chef Fariyal Abdullahi was very kind to stop by our table and even to provide us a special dessert. Sound level was moderate with great music and happy guests. Service was genuinely top notch. I've been in the industry a long time and this was just wonderful. Ensure that you try all of the food, one with the other. It's made to mix and match, especially in things like the Bread Basket. Make time in your next trip to NYC to see them. It's absolutely worth it.
An inventive and delicious menu, a good wine list with fun cocktails, in a great building.
Had a wonderful meal at Hav and Mar's for the first night of our fall theatre trip. I want to start by saying that the service there is wonderful- thoughtful, well paced. answered questions, made good suggestions. Such a great asset to that restaurant. It is Ethiopian Scandinavian fusion, so we were not sure what to expect. I had the Ka-Shaba Fierce to drink which was STRONG but delicious- I had never had cachaca before. Worth the risk. We started with the Hav bread basket which was great and just what we needed (but my daughter filled up on). My daughter had the Addis York which was a little spicy for her, so my husband ate it. It came with doro wat stew which was new for us. He also ate what he ordered which was the half chicken which came with mashed potatoes. I had the Nordic Forest Curry (talk about good fusion) and it was AMAZING. It was incredibly good- creamy, flavorful but not overpowering, mushrooms were good, rice was good. I wish I was eating it right now. We also had vanilla ice cream which I could hardly touch because I was so full. Very unique, thoughtful, flavorful food. Incredible service.
Amazing food, unique creations. More apps that aren't raw would be amazing (I love the raw but my friends don't so we didn't do it) but it made our choices all the more easy. I love the drink selection as well, since it was unfamiliar to me.
My family and I went to Hav & Mar for Thanksgiving dinner. The space is nice and the music played was great. However the service was not friendly and inviting or accommodating. My first indication of the poor service when we asked if it were possible to have a mini martini (typically on the happy hour menu so I understand this is not standard at the table). We were first told, I'd have to check with my manager. Then without checking told we can't do it. We were then told they don't have the ingredients to make it which was odd. In my reservation notes I indicated that there were 2 gluten free diners yet this was not reviewed by the wait staff. We notified the server that 2 people were gluten free and instead of being accommodating or helpful or even checking with the kitchen she just kept saying that no alterations could be made. My family enjoyed the bread basket and after the meal was almost over we found out that the injera they made was actually gluten free and could have been offered but because the server was not accommodating, it was never offered. We also had the octopus as an appetizer and the flavor was good but the octopus was overcooked and chewy. My mom enjoyed her salmon and the chicken dish was good. The branzino was not well seasoned just covered in sauce which looked good but wasn't that good. I really wanted to love this place because it's black owned and women led but the service was not good and the food was just subpar.
Hav & Mar is now in my top 5 restaurants of all time. We had a truly stunning meal from first to last. The mix of options was great and each dish stood out for the layers of interesting and well balanced flavors, each mixed or cooked to perfection. The three spreads for the mix of breads were brilliant from honey butter to sweet potato mango chutney and hummus. We tried only appetizers and dessert and the servings were quite large and wonderfully satisfying: from the tuna ceviche to meatballs with romesco sauce and the greens with sausage. Then the special dessert was stunning: a pavlova with creamy pumpkin and pepitas was eye popping. Stand out service and the sound quality was perfect. Couldn't have been happier.
Fantastic flavors! Exotic fusion Wonderful ambiance- quiet enough so people can hear each other and have conversations.

Incredible food and exemplary service! Every plate was extraordinary. Service was excellent everyone made us feel so welcome and cared for. The HAVATINI 2.0 is a must try!
Axel and his team were excellent! They were well versed about wines and the ingredients of the dishes. They paced our meal well and were so understanding when our third couple was running late. I would highly recommend Hav and Mar, not surprising, as Marcus and his chefs never disappoint. We have eaten at Red Rooster and are thrilled that he has expanded to midtown.
Food was excellent very tasty. Tne menu items were different but all excellent. The cornbread and chicken were quite good. Server was friendly, explained dishes but a bit slow, possibly because she was stretched. WE had a good time and would return.
Food and wines were really good overall but the timing was off. We waited for a long time for someone to take our order and had to flag someone down to put in a drink order. Then after we were served the cornbread, there was a long gap before our sides and shares all came out with our meals. It's a cool place and the food is creative and high quality. The salmon was exceptional as was the pavlova. Didn't love the fett.
I hadn't been to Hav & Mar in a while. But it only reinforced my memory: Wonderful and inventive food Friendly and professional wait persons Lovely ambience And this time noise level okay. I'm a great believer in killing music as in general it is unbearable. Luckily I found the level okay, but I still believe in banning the music or play some soothing classical tunes. I'll be back for sure.
