First, I love the low key atmosphere and the ambient light. I've noticed, as I've aged, that a lot of so-called popular restaurants are noisy and bright and the food is only OK. Hav and Mar is the opposite of that. It's a relaxing place with fantastic food- to the eye and the palate, excellent, professional service and great music. I hope it stays this way.

The food is just ok. Almost anything you try is good, but the service is really interesting. So many people that do not not what to do and how to do it. They are running around without any logic.

I visited Hav & Mar for lunch by myself one afternoon in NYC and it lived up to the hype. I absolutely loved my meal and thought everything was done expertly with a twist. The cornbread was probably the best I ever had. The tuna tartare was super tasty, but the star was the uni caesar salad. I would eat that everyday of my life. The crab and shrimp bucatini was also excellent and filled me up at the end of my meal. I would highly recommend experiencing Hav & Mar. The staff was super personable and knowledgeable of the menu. The ambiance was also very nice. Go here and enjoy their delicious seafood menu!

Get ready for taste buds to be fully engaged! ?? The food here is delicious! Had the sea bass, winter salad, Brussels sprouts and bread basket! And Rye cocktail and honeycomb Aquavit. Everything was great. The flavors work well together- nothing is overbearing - Ethiopian flavors and Swedish inspired dishes. Beautiful bar at the center— flying mermaids art decor on walls and on staff aprons - amazing cocktails - and attentive, friendly and knowledgeable staff!!! Bring a friend, sit at the bar, or enjoy a beautiful dinner on the rich, velvet, rustic-brown soft chairs. PS: get for the bread basket where biscuits just melt in your mouth — ??Dietary restrictions: Very open to help with food intolerances

This may be one of my favorite NYC restaurants! I first discovered Hav & Mar last June and recently went back. I was blown away the first time and the second time cemented that feeling. I haven’t had everything on the menu, yet all the dishes I’ve ordered thus far are delicious. As a carb lover, I have to recommend the bread basket. I also recommend everyone order a different dish and sharing, that way you can taste multiple dishes during one experience. Furthermore, the staff are awesome, especially the hostess…she’s so friendly and I adore her chic style. Highly recommend this place!

The specialty cocktails are perfection and combine unusual flavors to create YUM. The beet salad and the scallop appetizer was very flavorful and the whole branzino was broiled to perfection. Don't miss the bread basket.

My foodie colleague found this place for our business dinner while we were in NYC for meetings and was excited to get a last minute reservation. Service was excellent, food was delicious except for the oxtail rice dish which was way too salty. Highly recommend the bass entree!

An honest review of the place … so ambience was a 10/10 really beautiful place but the food was not what I was expecting when I hear “Ethiopian” the doro wat was heavily gentrified especially with the BBQ sauce; that took me for a loop. The raw cuisine was also weird. The area of which the restaurant resides in is catered to that demographic … .. . … …. So anyways the food was great but the restaurant shouldn’t be labeled as a “Ethiopian” restaurant it should be labeled as “Japanese Cuisine” with a Caribbean flare if you will, desert and tea was immaculate. Now the service, off first reception it was great BUT once it paid and tipped .. (and I tipped well with it just being me eating) I kid you not a waiter came up to me and said “this table is reserved” mind you the back of the restaurant was fully empty.. but let’s fast forward I said “ok” and gracefully left. Overall experience was a 3/5 thank you.Sincerely, Anonymous food critic

Hav & Mar was fantastic! Great food, upbeat vibe, attentive service that was not intrusive. The Branzino was cooked to perfection with a delicious sauce served on the side. Ceaser salad was unusual and delicious. Tuna tartare was excellent. Bread basket was unusual and came with interesting accoutrements. Delicious yucca and sweet potato fries were crispy with just enough seasoning. It was my first visit but definitely not my last. I'll definitely be back. I'm still dreaming about the Branzino!

An incredibly unique concept (Swedish / Ethiopian fusion) executed to perfection. The service, vibe and food are all great. The Addis York and Cornbread are particularly phenomenal.

Hav & Mar is now our new favorite restaurant in NYC! We went the week it opened a year ago and left pinching ourselves....Marcus Samuelsson has done it again! We then went back for Thanksgiving....over the top and last night we couldn't believe it but the food and service were even better! The food is unique, creative, beyond fresh and amazing...and the staff could not be nicer or more accommodating. Can't wait to return...
