So I am from the province where this food is supposed be from. Trust me, not only is not authentic Hunan food, it not even authentic any Chinese food in general. Avoid it, the food is just bad, we tried several dishes, nothing is passable

I got food poisoning from eating at this restaurant. I’m pretty sure because it was the only food I had today. I felt very nauseous after I had the meal for a few hours. Then I threw up and had diarrhea. DONT EAT HERE if you don’t want to feel horrible and throw up in the middle of the night.

Excellent hot and sour soup. Good shredded beef. Decent environment with decent music. But the service was terrible. Zero friendliness. Distracted. No sense of hospitality whatsoever. They should how to treat customers.

Bad food, don't eat here.
I ordered the dandan noodles, fried pork dumplings, and shredded pork w spicy garlic sauce. The sauces were basically spicy oil. No meat in the dandan noodles, very little meat in the shredded pork. The dumplings were ok

I’ve been going to this restaurant off and on since it opened in I think 2017 but this is first time since pandemic. Usually I get chicken with hot peppers or mapo tofu. Last time I went one of the people I was eating with cannot do spice so I changed it up and got Mao’s red braised pork belly. We also got the pickled cabbage and scallion pancake as starters; stir fried string beans , and pork with dried string beans. The braised pork belly had a good consistency but not much flavor. The string beans were also lacking salt. The pork with dried string beans was great as was the pickled cabbage. The scallion pancake was decent. Overall, I’d say this was the least satisfying experience I’ve had with this restaurant—though I still like it a lot.Two more things: 1. The service is excellent and food comes out very fast 2. Every time I’ve been here it has been deserted. Unfortunately it seems that since it opened it has faced the problem of people going to the much more popular Han Dynasty Manhattan location two doors down, which is always packed. I like Han Dynasty but this restaurant is just as solid and could use the support.

Unappetizing. The twice-cooked pork and braised pork were okay, but the Mapo Tofu was the most disappointing, not spicy at all and tasteless. The chicken soup was very bland, the pig's trotters were not tasty, and the portion was small, with only a few large pieces of meat.

- Eggplant with long beans - very tasty- Singapore Mai fun - pretty good, and still good if you ask for less oil- Pork with spicy garlic sauce - a decent tasting dish, but not what I expected. It was too sweet for my taste, and just unexpected given the name made no mention of sweetness.- Chicken and eggplant - good- Sliced fish and pickled veggy soup - a lot of pickled veggies so it's on the saltier side, nice to have if you're feeling sick- dan dan mian - spicy oil, good amount of heat, but not too spicy; a little sweet i think from a preserved veggy; it didn't seem like there was any ground pork, a good amount of leafy veggy though- Beef flank noodle soup (got it to go) - the soup was way too salty, it tasted like a lot of soy sauce, and I watered it down with a cup of water and it was still too salty; there was a good amount of bok choy and the beef was fine- Cumin beef - Tender beef (not too fatty), onions and parsley. A bit too much onion, the dish might be better with bell pepper too- Eggplant and long beans - Portion was somewhat smallEach dish each came with bowl of white or brown rice included. You can ask for complimentary tea too (not given by default), though they were a bit light on the leaves
Ordered through uber eats and food came with no utensils.
This place is a hidden gem. As visitors from Chicago, my girlfriend and I wandered in by chance. The place was small and quiet and we were the only ones there, and didn't expect much. But wow was the food amazing! We ordered dan dan noodles, soup dumplings, tangerine chicken, Mao's red braised pork belly, and beef with green pepper. All of it was delicious, even as leftovers. And the price was low, considering NYC expenses, the amazing quality of the food, and the atmosphere! If we're ever in town again, we would definitely make a special trip here again.

The only good thing was the wonton soup, and the young chow fry rice. As far as staff goes they suck, and over charge you. They lost me as a customer.Yes, it has changed. Sam the Server is such a sweetheart he really really is. You can tell he enjoys his job and just wants to make you feel comfortable. I'm so glad that have changed staffed. Food is delicious, much better quality, quantity and precision. Sometimes to fast ?, but delicious ?.

I came across this small home-cooked restaurant by accident. The food tastes good and the chef and the bar guy are very friendly. Compared to the Chinese restaurants in Chinatown, this small restaurant has a more smoky atmosphere.

This is the worst Hunan food I have ever tasted - it feels like the chef took a leave of absence and the dishwasher took over. And it’s not cheap.

Enjoyed my meal here quite a bit, and service was good.
I ordered via Postmates. Food arrived missing a soda. The spring rolls were fine. The General Tsos had a hair in it. Would not recommend.
