They’ll pressure you into buying something else other than tap water (so we got sparkling water and tea, 10 dollars per container), tipped 18.3% (100 dollars for a large group bc of this) and I saw the guy try to override the 100 to 110 until I called him out on in) Gave me a bad impression. Food was good. They make their profit from the drinks since food was relatively cheap if you dont order the pecking. Menu makes it look like its 2 stars from Michelin but its just Michelin...
The location is great, the service was excellent. However, for calling itself a Sichuan restaurant, none of its food has the traditional spice or flavor of the province. In fact, even after requesting, the staff could not provide the traditional MF "mala" 麻辣 spice. The food tasted like bland, "Americanized" versions of the traditional dishes. Good, but not authentic.
This place was just okay. I would say very pricey for what you get. The waiters and waitresses are very attentive to customers, but almost in a way that made my group feel rushed and it almost felt a bit pushy. Not sure if this is just a NYC thing, but we wanted to take a little bit of time to talk and chat, and it felt like we had to order right away and leave when we were done eating.
