Amazing food but due to how busy it was the staff (not their fault) would forget part of the order or bring it too late despite being reminded. Overall still pretty great and popular for a reason

Food quality has gone down after COVID, they kick you out quickly as soon as you finish eating everything.

Food is cheap and good, the only issue I have with going here is that sometimes they really be rushing you out. They cleaned off our plates before we were even done because they were so rushed to make us leave. I work in the industry so I understand that cheaper restaurants have a quicker turn around time for tables but we weren’t there for that long and taking away our plates before finishing is a bit meh in terms of service. Def not a place to chill but if you’re looking for a quick cheap, Izakaya type vibe, this place is good.

I came there for the frozen beer. I sat and order 2 beers and a miso soup.
We are told that we must order a main dish. We left. I thought izakaya is a drinking place with food is optional. Weird..

Terrible staff service on the call. I asked how long do you estimate for us to wait if we walk in on a Saturday night. He just said “no guarantee”. I said “I understand no guarantee, I am just wondering how long should we plant”. He said “I don’t know how busy we will get” and after that no goodbye just hung up the phone like that.

It’s ok to say you don’t know but being rude is unacceptable. Please train your staff on how to properly answer phone calls. This call was made on 3/7 @ 1:18pm.

The place are so busy. They told me i have to wait 30-40 minutes but 20 minutes i already get seated which is good.
I was craving yakitori. They have yakitori sets its 4 skewer ( shisito pepper, meatball, shrimp and eel) i dont really like it. And i order scallop uni skewer also. All the skewer has creamy flavor which not a fans of creamy stuff. I ordered salmon salad was good.

Izaka mew was pretty good! This place is super popular and busy. There was a lot of people waiting to go in, even when it just opened. This restaurant is open from 12-2 pm, and then it closes and opens back up again from 5-9:30pm. Despite it being busy, my food came out pretty quickly. I got the salmon sashimi taco and it was really tasty! It was a salmon taco with guacamole, which is a good fusion of Hispanic and Japanese food. The portion size was a little small though. The service was good and the waiter answered any questions I had. The place had a nice underground ambience to it. Overall, I would recommend. It has a lot of good Japanese food items on its menu.

Service was very rushed and rude. Before I even finished eating they started cleaning up and dropped my aligners. I gave them a $10 tip but today I realize they GAVE THEMSELVES A HIGHER TIP.

It looks like just a small restaurant in the basement at a tourist place, not an izakaya at all.
I have never been to izakaya like this loud place.
Employees are not Japanese.
If you expect to be welcomed when you come in, well... good luck.

After seeing great reviews of this place, me & my mom went tô try. We really liked this place, the food was definitely way cheaper than we expected and the service was super fast. The waiter would bring us something we ask for less than five minutes and the food was very very good. Definitely rare to find restaurants that are very cheap around NYC. I will say I’m not a fan of the really loud music while I’m eating just because I can’t really talk but, it didn’t bother me that much.

Definitely overrated. The frozen kirin was interesting, it's just ice cold beer with frozen beer foam on top. The Omu Soba was huge. It wasn't bad, but it was way sweeter than I expected. It couldn't finish it, and I don't think It lives up to its hype at all. The katsu salmon, however, was really good. It was baked/fried perfectly, and both the tofu and the potato salad that comes with it were a great addition. I'd recommend it. The tiramisu wasn't really a tiramisu at all. It's basically a cheesecake with a slight cocoa coating on it and a smidge of coffee flavor. It's good, but definitely not a tiramisu.

The most important thing I noticed is that this place really cares about money. The fact that you'll be charged $20 per person if you can't make your reservation was already a slight red flag for me. The influx of people that come here is huge, so I know they make huge money, but after trying multiple things, I'm certain that less than half of that money goes into the quality of food. So where does the money go? Well, not in the establishment, that's for sure. The place is cozy, but extremely run down, and not just in a "cute basement feel" way. The bathroom is awful. There is a single stall, one ply paper, and no lights next to the mirror which you have to bend down for. So my conclusion is that this place keeps most of its money for itself, and doesn't redirect it towards a better experience for its customers, and i don't appreciate that.
