Jean Claude 2 closed permanently the day before my reservation. How is it that Open Table still let me make a reservation, and why do you think I ate there? Instead, they directed me to the newly opened Jean Claude on 1st Avenue, which was wonderful.
What a delightful restaurant and meal! My friend and I both loved the roasted cod and the pork loin; ditto for the tart tatin & chocolate mousse. And generous portions! Neither of us were able to finish our entrees & I couldn't finish the tarte tatin - it must have been a full quarter of the tarte. I'd go back again in a heartbeat!
The menu is limited but that allows them to focus on each dish. The service was very good, and the seating was comfortable, no crowding. We'll go back to see if it is consistently good.
The food is delicious. The tables are nicely spaced out, and the service was good.

Food was great. We've been going to Jean Claude for years, and this was probably the best meal we have ever eaten there.

The simple decor hides the extraordinary cuisine at Jean Claude II on the Upper East Side. Though it presents itself as a French bistro, the food is top-notch fine dining.
We started with the salmon, accompanied by shiitake mushrooms and a smooth puree. The steak, served with crispy fries, was juicy, tender, and perfectly seasoned.
The highlight was the tarte tatin. Unlike the traditional version, this dessert had more apples, reminiscent of a refined apple pie.
The staff were friendly and welcoming, adding pleasant conversations to the enjoyable dining experience.
This restaurant is a must-visit for an exceptional French meal in a cozy, unpretentious setting.

Jean Claude never disappoints! The food is excellent, as is the service. Plus, on these blazing hot days, the inside temp is cool and comfortable. Be sure to check out the salmon with spinach and mushrooms and the bread pudding. Awesome! Rumor has it (actually, my boyfriend says) that the scallops are really good and that the chocolate mousse is fabulous!
We came for the Steak Frites and were disappointed with the quality of the meat. It was tough and not flavorful. Other dish ordered was the scallops and vegetable risotto. That dish was very tasty. Would go back if in the neighborhood. but probably not order the steak again. Service was courteous and helpful. Other dishes that were served at neighboring tables seemed nice.
as soon as I walked in this restaurant, I just thought it was so charming and so comfortable. The menu was absolutely perfect. The waiter very attentive. I could not have chosen a better place for lunch and if I lived in the city again, I would come here often.
Wonderful ambiance and service, and not crazy pricing. I ordered the tuna sandwich, however and it arrived with cold french fries. Surprising in that delivering hot fries is not difficult. The sandwich was delicious and nicely prepared - the fries a disappointment.

We were 4 women .Three of us ordered duck breast and one ordered muscles. The duck was very good and attractively served. The muscles didnt taste very good. When the person who ordered them didnt eat more than one muscle, she asked us each to try one. We did and all agreed that they didnt taste right. We sent them back. When the bill came, we were charged for the muscles. And no apologies were made. We also had salad and desert... all good. But the muscle thing wasnt nice.
Good food and service at reasonable prices for Manhattan.

Perfectly done Croque mousior, and before that I had French Onion soup. Covered in toasted gueurye cheese ? the onions were perfectly cooked and not tough. They are handicapped accessible. The interior is charming without being chitchy. Also there is outside seating.

I finally found a good Croque Monsieur in New York, not an easy task. The secret is spreading mustard on both inside faces of the bread before cooking. They do not do it systematically (they will when enough diners ask for it), but they oblige if you request it. Also, I prefer my croques darker and more gratinated. I forgot to ask, but the one I had yesterday was thick, juicy with cheese, and overall very good. The escargos were tempting, I just had no room for both, but they smelled delicious , were served in the shell with the right pliers, and did not seem over-frozen as in most cases here. Definitely worth more visits.
