Joey Bats Café is one of my favorite spots for Portuguese treats! This was my first time visiting their Essex Market location. I came a bit later in the day, so the pastry I wanted was sold out, but I was still able to grab one of my favorites, the blueberry Pasteis de Nata, and as always, it was delicious. Joey Bats truly has some of the best Portuguese tart so when I find one near I always get some. The café is inside the Essex Market, with plenty of seating both upstairs and downstairs.

The egg tarts are sooooo yummy. Definitely recommend all flavors: original, blueberry, and passion fruit. I heard the tarts are shipped orginally all the way from Portugal. Staff Mayara is literally angel 💕

If you enjoy Portuguese Pastel de Nata, then Joey Bats is the place to go. During my visit they were selling three varieties; Original, Passion Fruit, and Cinnamon. Being a purist, I stuck to the Original and was quite pleased with the delicate, flaky crust and the delicious custard filling. The coffee was great too. It was a treat to get a Cinnamon stick for the coffee.
Great service with a smile.

I hate writing reviews but when warranted I’ll go out of my way. The Jefa of Joey Batts was awesome and down to earth. Me and my Wife were speaking to her thinking she was there to buy just like we were until she offered us the Chocolate and Passion Fruit to try on the spot.
I HATE PASSION FRUIT but it was AMAZING, the Chocolate as well but nothing is like the Original. Nice flaky crust smooth, sweet and heavenly taste. It was ao good we bought frozen ones for home and those are just as great too. The Cashier was very nice and accommodating.
I have a sweet tooth but never had q Portuguese pastry until Joey Batts and I don’t like much of anything very picky but take it from me if your in LES and on the fence about trying it, jump over that fence and grab yourself 4! (Two original, one chocolate and one passion fruit) and wash it down with a nice cup of coffee, latte or tea. Can’t wait to go back thanx good ppl at Joey Batts! (Late night snack air fryer)

I hardly ever write reviews. However, one bite of these pasteis de nata from Joey Bats Cafe and your mouth with rejoice. The clouds will part, and the sun will shine straight into your face. The service is 10/10. They are attentive and warm. I ordered frozen and ready to eat pasteis. That's how much I loved them!!

Swung by for two natas. I was hoping to try their vegan natas but learned those are only available at the Chelsea Market! I hope they plan to spread them to the other locations :)
I had the blueberry and passionfruit natas. These things melt in your mouth and cover your palette with divine flavor. So delicious! Thank you!!

Pretty darn good. The smell is the same as those of Belem. They get pretty darn close to the taste as well. Kuddos. The price was fair I got the six pack for $20 not bad. Tried two of the maracujá ones. They were pretty darn good as well. Will def be back again soon when I have saudade 🫶🫀🫶

I don’t normally post reviews, but the lady who owns this coffee shop is the nicest lady of all time, and the espresso I had was indeed marvelous, as advertised.
Would stop by here any day of the week to grab a cup of coffee!

Delicious Portuguese pastries. They offer the little gems in a vegan version also which are amazing. I will often visit this place if I’m in the neighborhood because the tarts are THAT good.
