My fiancé and I are always looking for pockets of home (Hawaii) wherever we are, and we’re grateful to have found Juban in New York City. Not only is the food authentic and delicious (yakitori and sushi are to die for!) but the atmosphere is welcoming and cozy and the staff is like family to us. The sake selection is also on point! If you can, stop by for a drink, some skewers and the vibes.

This place has delicious food that is savory to the pallet. The customer service is a delight and very welcoming. I would recommend this place for a classy date or stop before a night on the town.

I will try not to be biased as it’s the first time I encounter a business that shares my name, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Very intimate restaurant serving mostly smaller portions. I was a big fan of the sushi and skewers. The sushi was fresh and definitely higher quality. Many things are made in house. My wife liked the homemade Matcha cake. Service was top notch.

Delicious! Esp the chicken thigh skewers and the crab fried rice!
4.5 / 5.0 - I don’t know how I never knew about Juban until now! It is an authentic Japanese izakaya with excellent food and drinks.
It’s quite cozy, with a bar counter and some seating in the back, where we were lead into.
We ordered several dishes to share and everything was delicious:
- Mizuna Jako Salad ($18+)
- Snow Crab Cheese Roll ($14+)
- Panko Brussel Sprouts with Spicy Miso ($13+)
- Tsukune = chicken meatballs ($12+)
- Tuna Avocado Roll ($13+)
- Yellowtail Scallion ($12+)
- Matcha Cake ($14+)
Mizuna Jako Salad is a very Japanese dish and I really enjoyed it. I would also highly recommend the Snow Crab Cheese Roll and Panko Brussel Sprouts.
For drinks, I tried the Yuzu Bubble ($17+), which combined 2 of my favorites—prosecco and yuzu.
I think the only downside was the dessert. We ordered the matcha “lava” cake, as our server had explained to us, but there was nothing flowing out from inside. It was good, but it was a plain matcha cake.
They have a minimum spend of $30 per person, but you can easily spend over $100 for a couple of drinks and food.
At the end of our meal, the manager or owner, who was Japanese, came by our table. He was friendly and we chatted for a bit.
Looking forward to dining again :)

Juban is the best neighborhood gem. Every item on the menu will be perfect for your meal (whatever you order, whenever you visit) and the specials are always a treat. The vibe is cool and cozy, thanks to the calm and welcoming hospitality provided by Ashwin & his team. Juban is the spot I recommend to everyone!

Very cute interior, I enjoyed the booths. However service was very slow, and felt like the wait staff kept using it as an opportunity to up-sell more appetizers etc. Menu specifies $30 minimum per guest which felt awkward—given menu prices you easily hit that and specifying it seemed again to be pushy. Quantities were very small, and the sushi quality was just ok. Left still hungry but didn’t want to wait another 30-45 minutes if we put another order of food in.

This jewel box of a restaurant is one of my all time favorites. The quality of the sushi is impeccable - my other must haves are the cauliflower tempura, the Brussel sprouts, and the Saikoro steak. The owner and bartenders always make me feel at home and somehow never seem to forget a face or a drink order. Even though I no longer live in the city, this is always my first stop when I come "home". 10/10 would recommend.

Really fantastic food. They had a variety of items so everyone in our group got something they wanted. Highlights were the meatball skewers, Brussels sprouts, and California role. I also appreciated our server happily taking our orders for more food as we ate and wanted more. I think we ordered food 4 times. If you’re gluten free, they have gluten free soy sauce but a lot of things were fried or brushed with a non-gluten free sauce so you just have to keep it simple.
