This place is cool, it's a nice interior, cool art with comfortable seating. The waiters were also stylish. The food was good, but honestly it was a giant ripoff. My friend and I had 2 carafes of sake, the cauliflower, hamachi (?) collar and the crab friend rice. This was $200 in total. The portions were small, I definitely had to eat again later. The collar was good quality probably but it was just unseasoned cooked fish. Cauliflower was kind of cheap tasting? Fried thing and mayo, I don't know that it exceeded my experience of chicken nuggets and mayo at home. Rice was the highlight, but honestly, it wasn't mind-blowing. It was a nice, even umami. So, yeah I wouldn't come back here at this price point. It just doesn't make sense.

Juban is a Gem hidden in the concrete Jungle! My go to place for all business dinners, and celebrations with friends! Plus: the best experience is dining at the bar! Always meeting the most interesting people from around the world! Ps. Trust me! Ignore the 1stars, they most likely are bots! I’m not sure how anyone could have an awful time here! Trust the 5 star reviews!

Decent food, but nowhere near the quality or portion size to justify the price tag (~$110/pp excluding alcohol). We also had the impression our waiter was constantly trying to upsell us as we ordered and he even doubled some of our appetizer orders without warning us.

The food was okay, but my experience with the owner or manager was one of the most unpleasant I’ve ever had at a restaurant. I won’t be going back, and I definitely don’t recommend it.

Cool izakaya place with great food options and a really good Sake selection. Great for friends who want to share different dishes.

**It’s appalling when a restaurant tries to publicly discredit and embarrass a customer. We absolutely have eaten at your restaurant before, not under a Resy reservation. But a $240 charge for an accidental no show this time? The email is completely accurate - you want to call my kid and ask? Patrons beware.

I will give this restaurant 2 stars for the food being meh. However, my latest experience with the staff was horrendous. I will never dine there again. They have the absolute worst customer service and think they are way better of a restaurant then they actually are. Steer clear of this place! Not worth the money at all!

It used to be a really special place.
We were there in September 2025 again, and now it's way more expensive, with very limited vegetarian options.
Service has become sloppy and quite disappointing.
I'd give it a miss.

Juban has such a great vibe. We came with a big group and they took amazing care of us the whole night. Food was on point and drinks/cocktails hit the spot. Perfect place to hang, eat well, and enjoy good company!

Amazing food and environment. The decor and ambiance is great for any kind of night: date night, friends hanging, or just vibing. Would come back in a heartbeat!

I might be in love.

Came here with friends and instantly hit the vibe. We’ve been hunting for the izakaya magic we’ve found in Tokyo—cozy, lively, and communal—and Juban nailed it.

But what really stole our heart was the team that made the place hum and made us feel like regulars. The owner, Ashwin, even came out to greet, serve, and drink with all of us, sharing his recommendations (my favorite were the beef short rib skewer) and latest imported sake.

It’s evident that Juban’s authenticity isn’t coincidental. It’s cultivated from a lifelong passion and study of both culture and hospitality. A gem like this deserves a spot on everyone’s list.

Food was tasty and service was good - but portions are so small, for the price it wasn’t really worth it. A lot of other places in the city with similar food but for half the price.

My partner and I have been going to Juban for nearly 10 years. Juban is special in so many respects; the environment, ambience, service and recognizable faces each visit feels like a visit home to Japan with the buzz of Tokyo and the coziness of Osaka. If you want amazing sushi, you'll find it here. If it's traditional beef and rice dishes or teppanyaki with char and deliciousness you want, you've got it done perfectly. Most of all, you could easily think all the employees are owners - with so much care, attention, and knowledge, you cannot go wrong at Juban. This is a jewel in New York City and I pray to all things good it stays around forever. Go!

My husband and I were doing our wedding photoshoot in NYC and our photographer loved the aesthetics of Juban and wanted to take a photo in front it - the manager(?) came outside and congratulated us on our marriage and offered us free sake shots, but we had to politely decline since neither of us drink 🥺 The final photo is one of our best shots and we wanted to officially thank Juban for the kindness they showed to the total strangers who were trespassing their property 😂 We will definitely go back in the near future to dine!

The food is so bad. Everything tastes so stiff, dry and salty. Not worth the price. Never come back an again.
